I can’t seem to find a thread directly talking about this (although the fault does seem to have been mentioned a few times).
I noticed from the outset that, with the hard top up on my RF, there was a bit of wind noise above my head roughly where the join along the middle of the roof is. I’ll be honest, I didn’t really pay it much mind. I didn’t even remember to mention it when I got my car serviced last week.
However, I was poking around the intarwebs and stumbled across this document:
https://www.miata.net/garage/tsb/RF%20Wind%20Noise%20from%20Roof%20when%20driving.pdf
It’s a service information bulletin from Mazda which seems to describe my exact symptoms and how to fix them. The bulletin was issued in June of last year.
According to it, some vehicles might be affected (depending on how their weatherstrips line up). Mazda have changed mass production techniques to address the issue (foam pads installed on weather strips).
According to the document, affected Europe and UK spec vehicles are in the following range:
JMZ ND**** ** 100001 - 126049
Production dates of May 14, 2015 - Jan. 7, 2017.
My car was registered on 1st March 2017 but it could easily have been made within that time-frame. My VIN is . I assume that the numbers at the end are the important ones here and, given that they are lower than 126049, my vehicle is in the affected range? Is anyone able to confirm?
If so, I’ll give Arnold Clark a shout and see about getting this looked at for my car. It’s not an urgent fix. I just wish I’d remembered before getting my service done.
