Great to see the latest MX5 ND RF getting second place in Evo Car of the year 2024
What beat it?
My guess…Porsche 911?
I haven’t read the mag but it’s usually some 911.
Also probably 5+ x more expensive than the Maz
The Soft top obviously
it was the Porsche 911 but only by 0.2 of a vote !!
ND RF tied with the McLaren - closest ever result in ECOTY
It’s always a 911 sigh
Perhaps they should do a test that takes into account price bands?
If that was a factor it’s likely the only real competitor to an MX-5 might be the Toyota GR-86?
I thought the judges’ assessment of the car was enlightening.
“…one of the most rewarding and entertaining cars on the test. I found it utterly absorbing. And it felt exactly the same in the wet which is the hallmark of a great chassis.”
Dickie Meaden commented: “…reminding us how wonderful a small, light, simple and modestly powerful rear-drive sports car can be. If eCoty was scored on a percentage of a car’s total performance used by any given driver at any given moment, the Mazda would have won by a country mile.”
James Taylor pointed out that it’s the only car here that he could realistically afford to own but that he’s be very happy to own. “The MX5 is the moral victor, the people’s champion.”
Averaging the five judges’s scores gave the 911 S/T (£231,000) a final score of 92.8 with the MX5 (£34,000) only fractionally behind on 92.6 equal second with the McLaren Artura Spider (£221,000). On a value for money criteria, the MX5 clearly wins by even more than the proverbial “country mile.”
Wonder if the Soft top would have won it out right
Probably not as the RF is better😁
And it’s still not a Porsche.
Probably not as the RF is better😁
Until your window regulator inevitably fails and you cant shut the roof correctly
Yes that seems to be a huge problem with the RF, the forums are packed with issues with the roof:wink:Oh wait a minute I’m getting it mixed up with the soft top rubbing and other issues:grin:
