RF Roof Problem

Hi,

Has anyone had any problems with the roof on their RF?

For quite sometime i have had a vibration,/clattering noise on especially rough/uneven road.  I do also get this on smooth surfaces as well.  Initially I thought the vibration was from the dashboard but the noise seems to be coming from behind as well.

The car has been into the garage and of course they couldn’t hear what the problem was, as the noise is intermittent.  I can drive the same route for 2 days with no noise and then it suddenly it comes back with vengeance, same route.  As at the moment the car is only drive to/from work.

Being literally driven round the bend with this.  Car is 6 months old and I hate driving it.

After a a noisey trip home one evening, even through it was dark and wet, I went back out in the car and drove the same route with roof down, no vibration, heaven!  Then did the exact same route with roof up, the vibration immediately came back!!

The car is booked into the garage on the 6th Jan.

Kind regards,

April.

Maybe you can set your mobile phone somewhere and record a video of the two different conditions, with and without the vibrations to help diagnose the trouble.

I can hear a light squeak sound from the roof rubber seals if the seals are wet and cold. If they are not wet or cold no squeaks. No vibration though.

My rear view mirror rattled a bit when I bought it but I simply adjusted it further away from the windscreen and that was the end of that.

Recording the issue with video and sound is the best. I’ve done it with Mazda and BMW in previous cars and they can’t fob you off. Post it on YouTube as it makes them even more determined to fix because it’s on social media.

My RF developed a vibrating sort of buzz when the roof was up.  Sounded like it was inside one of the roof panels.  Pressing on the roof in various spots didn’t help.  Driving my daughter to college on the way to work this morning:

Dad, why are you pushing all over the roof?

Trying to stop that annoying buzz.

It’s the rear wind deflector, Mum and I worked it out the other day, look when I touch it the noise stops.

So all I need to work out is a way to tighten up the fitting of it.  I tried running without the deflector in place as some say it makes buffeting worse but it’s too cold and wet to experiment properly for a while yet.
