- My model of MX-5 is: __ND2 - RF
- I’m based near: __Blackburn
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Door Bushes
I’ve got an RF and keep reading about how much of a difference a simple set of door bushes can make to both noise and handling. It sounds almost like magic for such a cheap and easy mod. Just wondering—do they work as well on the RF as they do on the soft top?
I’d be interested in hearing about this too. Which ones are you looking at @StuSmith?
I can see two listed on mx5parts, I wonder how they differ from each other, and if there is a general preference towards a specific model.
If you are in Filey you can try some and see for yourself.
They are absolute snake oil.
Also be aware that there are two different door bush plates. The ones in the 30AE are a different shape and they do NOT match the aftermarket bushes so you may need new plates as well. Interestingly the part numbers have never changed.
If any one is interested , just ask and I will try and find the pictures that show the difference.
@YoanH I was thinking about these…simply because of the name Polybush
@Mad_Malc Thanks for the offer but I’m in Lancashire.
So you wouldn’t recommend? I have noticed there is a metal base plate on the OEM ones where the fixings tighten to, on the after market ones it looks like it’s just the bush material, wondering if this would distort when tightening the screws?
Hm fair enough. I wonder why are there people who claim it is a “miracle” modification.
It is mainly because they are much better drivers than I am!!!
I took the plunge and went for the Polybush door bushes from MX-5 Parts. Fitted them today—took no time at all. The car is noticeably quieter over rougher tarmac, and the doors now shut with a solid, premium-sounding clunk. It also feels subtly tighter through the twisty bits. Hard to pin down exactly what’s changed, but there’s definitely a difference.
Something in your head, but not actually on your car.
Could be who knows?
I can’t see them making any difference at all, especially at the position they are in (near the bottom of the door aperture). I would have thought that the fact you have an RF makes a bigger difference to the rigidity compared to the soft top than any door bushings can make.
