RIP Dave Brodie founder of BBR

Sad to hear that Dave Brodie is reported to be no longer with us. I first became aware of him when I was a school kid, buying a poster of his well known Mk1 Escort ‘Run Baby Run’. Dave was similarly successful in a modsports Lotus Elan in a similar livery.

I saw him race many times including at my first visit to Silverstone in 1978 when he brought his Touring Class Capri III, shared with Dave Matthews home a respectable 13th.

He raced a string of turbo cars including Sierra Cosworths Mitsubishi Starions before venturing to Le Mans for a one off outing in 1994.

By this time he had co founded the BBR tuning business which carries on to this day and will be known to many owners on this forum.

Alongside all of these activities Dave was a close friend of Super Swede Ronnie Peterson, with whom IIRC he was involved in a double marriage when Ronnie married Barbro. He also had some involvement with Frank Williams through the Williams hey days in the 90’s.

Dave was a brilliant after dinner speaker and could keep his audience laughing, often at his own expense with endless tales from the top echelons of the sport in the 1970’s and 80’s. Less well known was his work supporting new talent coming into the sport through his work with the BRDC.

My sincerest condolences to Daves family, friends and many fans.

Thanks for letting us know. There was a good article in Evo magazine about him not so many issues ago. An interesting guy.

Rest in peace Dave.

His name started with me with the Sierra touring cars in the late 80’s , fighting with Andy Rouse, Mike Smith, Rob Gravett and Tim Harvey to name a few. Sad news , but happy to say I have BBR on the boot lid of my car.
Rest In Peace Dave.

Hear Hear!
my late husband prepped Mark Hales cars, and in 1990 they were in the same races, when I was pit crew.

Good memories - I didn’t know Dave well, but he was so much part of that scene and so many other great racing events. Much missed.

This was too my first experience of Dave.
Thruxton was my first ‘time seen’ either ‘87 or ‘’88 can’t remember the year.He basically said that most of the BTCC drivers couldn’t drive other than a few respected names like Rouse etc. it was a hilarious TV interview that I have never forgotten. His car flew round the track that day and looked amazing with the chrome stickered livery. A real character.
Condolences to the Brodie family
