I have just traded in my 03 Mk2 (1.6 Isola) for an 06 Mk3 2.0 Sport. The new one is great, but there is much more road noise with the hood up than there was with the Mk2. This seems to come particularly from the nearside rear wheel area. What’s the experience of other forum members? Perhaps there is something wrong with my car, but I don’t think so. If the additional road noise is normal, any ideas for reducing it? With the hood down there’s no problem.
Do you happen to know what tyres you had on the other car? If you do and you go to a tyre place they should be able to tell you if they would be quieter that those on your “new” car. My Toyo’s are lovely and quiet.
Thanks, that’s definitely worth checking.
Not sure what tyres were on my old one, but have just checked the Mk3 and it has Michelins - do they have a reputation of being noisy?
could it b a wheel bearing? cos michelins aint a noisey tyre, unless under inflated?
