Road Tax Increases

I see we’ve been clobbered again by the Road tax increase.  If you have anything other than a Mk3 then your probably in Band J (1600) or K (1800).  If your in band K like me your road tax has just gone up by more than 6% from £245 to £260.

The increase is supposed to be by RPI which was 4.6% not 6%.  I suppose it’s to do with rounding up to the nearest £5 but to me this is disproportionate.

I still can’t understand why a 1800 Mazda engine is over 201gm/k CO2 anyway - was it a Friday afternoon when they done the test?  Beer

Daylight government robbery!  Rant over.

So you (and I) need to save an extra 4 pence a day, big deal Confused

Yes you can look at it that way if you want, but I still think £260 is a ridiculous amount for such a small car particulary as I, and I would think quite a few others, only do lowish summer miles.

Road Tax should be abolished and placed on petrol so that those that use their cars more, pay more - much fairer!

Makes me pleased that my 1.8iS was registered in 1999 as the tax is only (?) £215. It all changed after 1st March 2001 to the new system.

Well,

I stopped smoking on 1 Jan, so in real terms, my road tax and insurance and holiday this year are all FREE!

Yes that’s definatly the best system but the government would loose out so they’ll never do it.  They want people like you and me paying a full years tax for very little mileage Angry

Still on a plus note my daily driver has reduced by £5 to £30 a year!!!

I’ve a 2001 MX-5 and have just received my Vehicle Tax Reminder. It’s now a whopping £415 a big jump up from last year’s £395. Sheesh!

UM they just want us all off the road .

Lol, 13 years ago people were complaining that it had risen to £260.! They obviously didn’t know how good they had it.

Still, it’s only about £1 a day, cheaper than some bags of crisps.

I’ve just paid nearly £170 for six months worth.

…of tax not crisps.

Its still less than half of the £600 for the wife’s car, I also pay  For the ‘privilege’ of being able to drive my car on the roads we have…

That’s true, we are quite fortunate there.

That is all fine if they done all the pot holes . But no they don’t so our cars get broken and cost us more to repair.

“UM they just want us all off the road”
Just the poor people. The well heeled will carry on polluting. It’s a status symbol for them.

There used to be an oft heard sayin’ ‘count yon blessings’, or as that chap Idle made a fortune from singing, ‘always look on the bright side o life’

I’ve started paying Road Tax monthly for both of my cars, £15.75 each (ND2 and a 3.0 litre diesel Beemer). Monthly payments feel much less painful and its very easy to cancel if I don’t expect to be using one for a month.

Road tax is long overdue for abolition with an appropriate increase in fuel duty to make up the loss. It would be much farer to charge those who do the highest mileage for the wear and tear they inflict on the roads. However, I don’t suppose that such a change is very high up the priority list for the government.

I suppose I am lucky taxed my nd 2.0 today 12 months £190

It’s all a joke in my humble opinion.
Taxed on emissions…

So my daily driver Vauxhall Astra 1.6 diesel (2017) yearly milage approx 30,000 …tax ? £0

2006 2.0 NC price when last taxed 3yrs ago (sorn since) £260 , milage covered approx 500

Now I’m sure my daily pumped out more in 30,000
and wore out more tarmac than the NC over the 12 month period

Double road fund costs, as well as general increasing upkeeps of our 2 old cars, was one main reason we gave up both our 5’s last year. The stupidity of it all, was my “filthy” little MK1 was less to tax than the 2002 Sport. Combined mileage of both was less than 5k P’a anyhow. The Suzuki went in fior the first of it’s 2 free dealer annual oil/filters services with a heady 2, 189 miles on. But boy they have been super fun miles may a time through the twisties with the Sport chassis and big brakes.

Our Swift Sport’s annual Road Fund feels like loose change now. Works out about a 3rd or summat…or less. I did object to getting screwed on the inflated 1st year new car DVLA scam Road Fund though. That was awful…why? Bunch of robbing hts. Getting my own back though with 45mpg etc despite it’s prodigious boost & leccy power. The savings of Road Fund pays for about 3 months fuel. Funny old world.
