Rocketeer alternatives?

Hi all.
A couple of juicy project threads recently have got me thinking about the Rocketeer conversions and any viable alternatives.
Of course the extreme would be an LS V8 swap ( or that one V12 on YouTube).
I know Drivetribe are installing a one off Connaught V10 into an NB but on a more down to earth basis, what else could be used?
Rocketeer utilise the Jaguar units and generally the 3.0litre lump. It’s a beauty because it’s as light as the OE four pot so weight balance is similar to the factory cars, it’s powerful, tractable and sounds great with the right induction/exhaust combo.
But, are there any other V6 engines that might be adapted?
Let’s suppose that out and out power is not our goal.
What about a Ford V6 motor? They were 2.5 litres weren’t they?
Or, perhaps one of the older Mazda powerplants? Didn’t Mazda create a 1.8 V6 for the MX-3? Could that engine be turned through 90° to be used only inline?

I’d be interested to hear everyone’s point of view.

Cheers,

Guy

On Miataforum, there is a whole section on engine conversions. Anything is possible

Wayback, Mazda prototyped a 929 V6 in a car planned for production.

Predating Rocketeer by a decade, Ford had a NB running around with the Lincoln LS V6, with Jaguar heads, and a hotch-potch Buick intake.

Even a 4BT Cummings has been done.

There are ubiquitous Rover V8 and Cologne Ford V6 MX5s.

Rocketeer was a turnkey conversion. There is the 302 Ford Monster Miata kit. Down under, Lexus V8s turn up. Rotaries of course/.

If you dislike eardrums, a Hayabusa MX5

At the other end, there is a 3-cylinder Suzuki engined MX5, out of a Swift or something, a masochist conversion

Ecotec (Vauxhall):

And 2JZ swaps

Very cool. Do you have a build thread on the go?
