Roll bar installation instructions

Just picked up a second hand roll bar off ebay, does anyone have fitting instructions? (don’t want to cut more of the parcel shelf than I need to!) and what hardware will I need to mount it?

Thanks in advance!

Depends on the make; different rollbars have different instructions. Japanese bars generally need some guess work. You need high tensile nuts and bolt. Also recommend some panel sealant.

Thanks, I think it is a Japanese bar, but there’s no branding to confirm … guess I’ll just have to roll my sleeves up and get stuck in!

The Japanese bars will always fit to the floor behind the seats; some will tie into the seatbelt mounts, and takes a bit of brute force to get these in. You might have to cut away some body sealant to get the main bar to fit right; you want to get it seated as far from the seat as possible. The rear stays will take some guesswork; try and bend the metal away, rather than cut too much

It might be worth posting a photo, or a link to the ebay ad.

Good point, I’ve popped some photos HERE - what do you recon?

From the description, not a Japanese bar I guess (and yes, I will be cleaning it up before installing!)

Not a Japanese bar; looks like a rip-off of something. Can’t see a tube inspection hole, so probably made from random shiney tubing. Treat it as a style bar. Worst installation ever; the galvanized part can be removed prior to fitting a bar, and 5 minutes spent making a template from a cornflakes box would make a better job than that seller. Hope you didn’t pay too much for it.

Looks like a style-bar rather than a proper rollbar.

I wouldn’t want to test the strength. It doesn’t seem to mount on to the seatbelt tower which I’d expect.

Anyway, I found metal nibbles like these were good for cutting a good clean hole into the top deck. As said previously, take the front part off first, you’ll need to remove the carpet and seats for better access.

I’ll check it over before fitting, since I only want it for safety purposes - it was dirt cheap, so thats probably why!

does it go through the body shell ? I don’t see any spreader plates. if it doesn’t it would be safer without it fitted at all Surprised

You’d have to be upside down to see the spreader plates. It attaches to the same area of the boot floor as most other rollbars. The question mark is the lack of an inspection hole, so no telling what  tubing was used, though it has decently finished welds. That it doesn’t fit to the seatbelt towers is also irrelevant; most rollbars are not fitted to the seatbelt towers.

Well I finally got to check it over today, it came with spreader plates but I’ve had to order some HT nuts and bolts seperately.

Its made from 3mm wall steel, to test I popped it on it’s side and hit it hard as I could with a sledgehammer … since it didn’t bend at the weakest point I think it’ll do what’s needed

Just need to get all the new stuff fitted now - thanks for your input guys!
