Roll over hoop garnish mk3.5

Over the weekend I decided to remove the roll over hoop garnish and paint them gloss black. I wasn’t keen on the silver and the previous owner had done something, don’t know what, that badly scratched them.
They came off very easy and the painting went to plan, however, now I’ve come to refit them I’m having issues.
The rear facing garnish that has been painted has gone back on fine and all looks as it should, but no matter what I try the interior facing garnish will not stay clipped in.
On both sides they clip in fine up both sides but then it’s a real struggle to get the top 3 in, and when it sounds as though they are seated in they un-clip themselves after a few seconds.
I’ve had all pieces of garnish off the car and they clip together no problem and there looks to be plenty of clearance and nothing that would stop this when they are on the car…
I’m hoping there is some knack to getting them back on….

When you fitted the rear ones - did you make sure the upper tabs were in FRONT of the roll bar tabs ?

Ah ha…. No I didn’t, and just found on another forum the following….

The only real trick in putting them back on. The rear piece has some plastic tabs that we usually expect to go in front of or behind the metal tabs that the screws go through. Instead, the plastic and metal tabs go between each other. I am not explaining this well. Check the relative position of the metal and plastic tabs before you remove the screws and you will be fine.

Now I’ve done, as you mentioned, the front pieces have gone on perfectly…
