Ronseal garage floor paint ...A warning

I have built a new garage when it came to painting the floor, I bought Ronseal Diamond hard floor paint…BIG MISTAKE

I had sealed the front of the garage with Ronseal Concrete sealer…Ronseal now tell me this is not compatible

I used 3 tins of paint. The 3rd tin came out a different shade of blue, much darker. I have sent photos to Ronseal and it’s somehow my fault. CRAP customer service.

The paint is water based and needs high temperatures to cure. I parked my car in the garage after 3 days of curing with heat on. It lifted where the tyres were.

I now have to scrape it off and use Leyland Paints.

I will never use Ronseal again for anything…Does what it says on the can my Arse.

Sorry to hear of your experience. I had considered painting my garage floor but given the rather worn and uneven surface it would have required a lot of prep work. In the end I opted to lay rubber flooring in the form of interlocking mats. These are 10mm thick with a metal floor design/appearance. I was a little sceptical as to whether they really were suitable for garages but given the price (£60) and the fact I was feeling a bit cheap I took a chance. They actually look pretty good and were a doddle to lay. However, my scepticism about suitability was justified as after leaving the car in the garage for 24 hours there were 4 large indentations from the wheels. A bit annoying although the upside is that when I put the car away I can simply roll it into position and then leave the handbrake off!

If I was going to do this again I would possibly consider repairing and levelling the floor then use rubberised paint that is often used in showrooms and industrial building. The advantage of the mats though is that they act as insulation which is much more comfortable when working in the garage in winter.

To return to the OP, Richard I hope you manage to sort it out and get the floor looking how you want it. I’ve always thought the Ronseal tagline was dubious.

I was very disappointed with Ronseal floor paint as well.

Ended up going with Leyland Product. Seems good so far - http://www.screwfix.com/p/leyland-trade-heavy-duty-floor-paint-frigate-grey-2-5ltr/86567

They do a 5 litre tin as well.

From Mark

I used Ronseal water based floor paint in my garage and think it is much better than all the other solvent based paint I have used before, covers well, no smell and have had no problem with it coming off but I also had a colour difference that I put down to me not getting the tin stired in enough as once I gave it a shake on the paint shaker at work it was fine.

I don’t believe that any paint manufacturer makes paint that defies the laws of physics. In order to dry properly, any water-based paint needs a porous surface (not sealed) or a very long drying time, especially in winter.

I painted mine 2 years ago in January on top of old epoxy paint that was flaking but although it was dry in a couple of hours I left it two weeks before driving the car on it.
