I need to replace the front latches on my hard top. They are held by star pattern ‘Torx’ bolts.
The only bit I have is a T28 which is too small
Can anyone confirm the bit size I need?
Thanks!

Just checked mine and assuming the same as MK1 and pretty sure they are = T40
Latch or striker bracket?
Bracket is a T40 Mk 1 to Mk 2.5 1989 to 2005
Latch MK 2.5 is a T30 2001 to 2005
Latch MK 1/Mk 2 is a phillips driver 1989 to 2000.
Hop that helps buddy

For the sake of completeness in case anyone is searching old threads at some point:
I can confirm that its a T30 bit. I have just bought one from Halfords for £3.50.
As regards changing the latches, I have to admit that I approached this with a little trepidation after reading a number of horror stories of seized bolts and people having to resort to all sorts of methods to get them out. My hard top is now 15 years old and I suspect that the bolts had never been out.
I used a ratchet with an extension piece - the latter to generate a little more torque in case they were very stiff.
They were quite stiff and I think that I would have struggled had they been the older Philips heads and been using a screwdriver.
Anyway changing both sides took little over 5 minutes and my top is now nice and secure - no more latches popping open!
