Roof locking mechanism

Looking for some advice. Just got a nice 02 plate . Looks to have had a new roof recently. However the drivers side locking latch won’t stay locked. Springs open . Is there any adjustments that can be made?

My 1st 2.5 had exactly the same fault, if you compare both latches you will/should find a small ‘tang’ is missing from one of the latches.

This is usual if the car has been stood on a dealers forecourt where potential buyers have been playing with the latches and don’t know how to release the latches correctly, hence the missing tang is snapped off.

Unless someone has an easy fix…e-bay is your friend.

This looks in better condition and you can see the tang.

The catch stopper commonly wears out. No need to replace the entire latch because of a £2 part

Quite right too! If that was the part in question. It’s actually wear on the hood latch itself that OP has a problem with, where it engages with the release button. As Dave suggested, a replacement latch that’s unworn is a safe bet and easy to fit. Another solution is to drill a small hole in the location of the worn bit and screw in a small headed self tapper, it might need filing down a bit when in place but would save the latch from the dustbin for virtually nil cost.

The catch itself has adjustment and may be over tightened too, contributing to this problem, backing it off a bit might help also by releasing some of the tension ( if there is any).

So after the advice given I purchased the £2 part. Today it’s arrived and to be frank I’ve no idea what it’s supposed to be replacing as it doesn’t look like any of the existing components on the latch. And no advice with the part… help would be appreciated…!

Thanks in advance!

Bettabuilder/Barrie’s link to a fix is a great solution… worked for me!

The vid will also show where the new catch-stopper is fitted to the catch-mechanism

I have the same prob. 10AE.

The trouble is I am short sighted, cack handed and generally crap engineering wise. Can anyone help? Wincanton area.

Will pay, obviously…
