I’m looking at replacing the standard steering wheel on my ND. I’ve been in touch with royal.I assume quite a few people on here have used them and are happy with the service they provide. It’s the increase in wheel diameter that I’m unsure of, 2 mm looks popular. Any advice on what size to go to would be appreciated.colour and style is not a problem it’s just the width.
Do you mean the thicker grip, not larger diameter wheel? The one I went for was the slightly thicker grip with flatter bottom and I find it the correct size, far better than the original.
Oh yes! That looks exactly what I was thinking of doing on my car.what did you spec? Smooth leather,2mm thicker rim,red stitching and flat bottom. Did you fit it yourself?
If I remember rightly that was the spec. I went to Aylesbury and had it fitted while I waited, doesn’t take long and made to look very easy.
Cheers for that,I was thinking of going down there for fitting but will probably do it myself. Looks great by the way.
Thanks
Royal on mine - a huge improvement on the slippy and narrow rimmed original . The car felt so much more wieldy - and the difference was apparent before I’d gone 100 yards
Ive got one same as IanC - I did not go for the centre red tab as someone else has that and it is one or two degrees off centre once the wheel alignment was redone and it annoys the hell out of him as it isn’t quite centred!
My wheel had already been recovered in alcantara when I bought the car. Hated it! It just felt like it would have been ok if I was racing and wore gloves but with bare hands… Not for me!
The wheel was slightly smaller overall diameter… And a little fatter.
Had it recovered in smooth leather top and bottom with perforated at the sides.
Not flat bottom… All black stitching to match leather gear / handbrake gaiters…
Whole car just feels great now !
I’ve never understood why people get flat bottom steering wheels, because as soon as you turn a corner, it goes back to being round at the bottom.
Only briefly - and why would that be problematic?
My ND standard round wheel is a bit tight to my legs in normal driving. A flat bottom wheel would give me a bit more clearance between legs and wheel.
Has anyone had Royal retrim an NB Nardi wheel ? if so, how did it go and how was the match to the airbag module?
I was in a rather chirpy mood when I made that comment last night !
Not to be taken seriously at all, just a wee wind up !
Royal steering wheel fitted to my ND.
Watch the YouTube videos on how to correctly remove the airbag, it’s relatively straightforward.
Leave the nut on loose when you pull off the old steering wheel so when it does come off it won’t hit you in the face .
The trim pieces click on and off with ease.
Night and day difference between the two.
Fully recommend.
Are you allowed to share a rough price guide please? Also do they fit a replacement or do they work on your wheel? How on earth do they make it flat bottomed, is it just less padding at the bottom than round the sides?
I have a spare steering wheel for a mk3 NC if anyone wishes to send off a wheel to be worked on and still drive their car
Just pm me
My Royal cost about £200 fitted, maybe a little more . Drove 200miles, had a coffee, back on the way home within 40 minutes .
