Royal Steering Wheels - Recommended!

I’ve got the chrome trims on the wheel Geoff? Does that count?

Barrie

Only reason I didn’t mention prices was because he’s made the choice to quote people direct rather than have a published price list - for right or for wrong, if that’s the way he wants to run his business then I didn’t feel it my place to interfere with that. Thats the only reason!

my price is what was quoted using his online request service. I feel it’s still not an excessive price to pay for a quality job and if someone is able to do a better deal…go for it.

not sure on price difference. I started talking to him a long time before and then left it, so maybe he has had a price change. Even at £200 ish you’ll be pleased. I chose not to have the red strip at the top (saved £10 i think)

does the £205 quote include a returnable £50 deposit if you are using the wheel exchange service from afar?
I got my wheel re-trimmed by Royal in December
the i placed was order was as follows

Mazda MX5 NC 2010 - Thicker (2mm) , Thumb grips, Perforated leather sides, Nappa top/bottom + Mid grey Centre stripe, Mid grey stitching - EXCHANGE
Price:
155GBP + 9.99P&P (Parcelforce next day recorded) + 100deposit
-Deposit is required only as business protection and it will be fully refunded straight after receiving your same type steering wheel.

I should add that delivery was about 3 weeks from order and i’m very happy with the result. I think he may only have one (or perhaps 2 stock wheels for the NC) as he was keen to get my old wheel back by return so he could start on another customer order.

the £100 wheel deposit was refunded to me immediately once he received my old wheel back.

No, the £205 is the all in price. I haven’t done an exchange.

I guess prices change periodically, possibly going up if demand increases for a particular model etc. I had the steering wheel in my NB done by him in 2014. Excluding fitment (did it myself) I paid £105 + £10 postage for the standard re-trim ie smooth leather top and bottom, perforated sides and bigger thumb grip. Can’t find the details for when I had the NC done in 2016 but from memory I paid £125 + £15 fitting for the same finish. At the time, I was tempted to have the steering wheel for my BMW 5 series done. He quoted just £105 + fitting for that. I agree that he could have a standard price for each steering wheel with customisation being extra but I think he does so much business he has no need to. Frankly, anything under £200 is a great deal for the quality of the work and the finished look.

And it appears it’s now winging its way back home to me

Following on from earlier posts on this thread, Jack from Royal Steering wheels replied to my online request form enquiry this morning. Sent the form Thursday and reply received Monday ( today ) so not bad at all? Very detailed reply, including pictures of what I had asked for confirming exactly what I needed, fitting dates available w/c 26.02.18 so have opted for Tuesday 27th.  £50 deposit sent via PayPal to clinch it. I asked for the wheel to have black leather perforated sides, smooth top and bottom sections with red stitching and a red centreing ring at 12o’clock position. He will also increase the wheel rim thickness and add thumbgrips? I have also requested a flat bottom section to the wheel which Jack has confirmed he can ( and will ) undertake this modification and the wheel will be on an exchange basis fitted at his premises? My current wheel has scuffs along the bottom section and is very shiny/ smooth so was due for something doing to it?

Total (for what seems to me, quite an extensive refurbishment ) is £220.00 inc. Cant wait until the 27th now!

I have looked into various options regarding the wheel on my 5, including aftermarket replacements etc, requiring new boss, etc and none have the airbag which I guess would be a biggy with insurance? This way, I have retained all the OEM features including SWC functions but in a way that hopefully will give a totally different look and feel to the car? Thank you to all who have given information on here, I really appreciate it?

Barrie

i suspect some of the extra cost for your wheel might be for the fitting service (maybe £20?) and for the re-profiling of the wheel to obtain a flat bottom then (perhaps £50?) …

I’m sure you will love the product… it feels super. much nicer than the OEM wheel.

Hiya, yes the fitting costs are £15 and the flat wheel mod is another £50 ? All very reasonable IMO

Here is the pic Jack sent to show the flat bottom wheel, just what I wanted!

I must get this done, all these posts and fabulous pictures.

I’ve got a spare wheel (infact two) I can’t decide whether to have the RX-8 wheel or original refurbed.

I finally received my newly refurbed wheel today and am over the moon with it. It’s what should have been on the car from the factory and it’s worth every penny spent.

Get some pics up  would love to see?

Any body had an ND wheel done yet ?, am planning to go over & see them tomorrow to see if they have an exchange unit or how long it will take to get mine done, Paul H.

 barrie…

that looks awesome  .

Yes Geoff!  and once the chrome trims are put on, well it will be perfect?

Barrie

Still don’t know how they make the flat section at the bottom, retains the original trim for the spoke?

I’d love too…but this forum makes loading pics too awkward
