Rust at boot wall

Hi all, hoping you can help/weigh in.

I’ve been pulling up the boot to start sound proofing phase 1 of 3.

On pulling up the trim I found this:

The minor puddle under the carpet has me bothered but its only just rained and I can’t see/feel any lead to that. I suspect it may have been sat from something damp in the boot previously. Thoughts? That puddle is up against the trim covering the locking mechanism etc.

The rust towards the front bulkhead looks like it might be atmospheric? I can’t see any rust at all on the bolts to the third brake light, which would be my first suspect otherwise. TBF it is a 17 YO car and I’d be surprised if the trim was ever lifted before!

Hi Andy . My floor looked like that on my 06 plate NC. I took it back to bare metal Was not that bad once the paint was removed . Then Rust killer A few coats of primer then four coats of top coat. Been done over a year now no sign of rust . Think it had a leak before i got her and they left it as it’s under the carpet. No sign of rust on my bulkhead .
