Rust proofing in Oxfordshire

Hi all, we are really close to buying what looks like a very tidy hard top MX5.

If we go ahead we will get it rust proofed. Having owned classic Mini’s rust is our sworn enemy.

Please can anyone recommend a decent rust proofing company in Oxfordshire.

Thanks a lot.

Tommo.

Nice one thank you ChrisRs.

I did find these via a google search and will be out their way later in the week. So will try and call in.

Do you have any experience of this company or know anyone who does?

If I do get in there I will report back.

Thank you again

Kind regards

Tommo.

Yes, thanks ChrisRs - I’ve added that to my database for future reference

I hope that you do use them Tommo so that you can become our customer reviewer; but good luck wherever you decide to go.

Just read this after looking for someone to rustproof / underseal my Sport Black. Eventually used a company called “The Retro Works” based at Tingewick just north of Bicester. Had ‘the works’ with all the underneath treated with rust converter and epoxy primer as required, protective wax coating on all suspension components, subframes etc, rubber underside protector applied to floor pans and under arches, cavity wax injection to everywhere it would go. They had the car for 3 days, and I was very impressed with both the job they did and the care they took of the car. I took the car for them to have a look at before the job was done, as I wanted to get their view of the job, and get an idea of what they knew about the MX5 - they clearly do a lot of work for much older cars (there was an old Jaguar up on the ramps) but gave me the definite impression they knew what they would need to do to my car.

Give Dave a call on 07950 665360 or email at david@theretroworks.co.uk (there is a web site, but it seems to be down at the moment).

A word of warning to all Mk3.5 owners out there - you may think your car is too new to be rusty - but I certainly got a surprise when it was put up on the ramp (and saw the before and after photos that Dave provided). My car had originally lived its first 5 years quite close to the coast - so I suspect that may have had something to do with the condition - but it definitely needed something doing to it to prevent a big issue in a few years time - you would never have guessed from the excellent condition of the bodywork.

Am having my RF Waxoyled by “Ultimate Car Paint Protection” near Southam (North of Banbury, actually just off the M40 near Gaydon) think AutoWaxworks who are base on Bicester airfield no longer do underbody etc treatment, I found the ICPP people from the Waxoyl distribution recommended treatment list, so will post pictures and comments etc after the treatment on Thursday, I like their comments that the first thing they do is derust where applicable, as my RF is less than 6 months old (5 from build date) don’t expect to find many problems before the treatment begins, they have said it will be the first RF they have done so will make sure that it is well documented for future cars, Paul H.

Hi,I am based in Witney but decided to take a nice drive up to MX5City where they waxoiled it. They did a great job and took just over 41/2 hours, then a quick drive (smelly) back to Witney. Reasonable price and they gave me a car for the 4 hours and petrol money to fill it. Very pleased with the result.

Interesting.

I think they are fairly cheap for this, c. £200?  Do you you where they treat?  e.g. inside doors, sill cavities, box sections etc.?

I’m looking to get my ND rustproofed.

how much does all this cost ?

Hi all, the full waxoil at MX5City was £180 for this they cleaned underneath then waxed inside the doors(removing the cards), sills and box sections. I am very pleased with their work and very good value unless you start to add on the time, mileage and wear and tear etc. Nice drive up and back though.
