Bought an RX8 wiper stalk off of ebay last week, and have just fitted it to my 2006.
In terms of how easy it is to fit, the term ‘piece of p@ss’ comes to mind. Three screws to remove the cover around the steering wheel, two screws on the part itself, and a flat screwdriver to unhitch the wiring connector. Them pull out the stalk, slot in the new one, and reverse what you have done
It’s a small and easy addition to make and although I hardly drive mine when wet itsi well worth adding. Every car should have variable wipers, why Mazda didn’t on these???
Yes, strange isn’t it as the earlier cars have this and clearly very easy to facilitate. Our 1991 Eunos has intermittent wipe - omission on the MK3 was an uncharacteristic mistake.
but I would be looking for ‘rx8 wiper stalk’. The only thing you have to make sure of, is that it doesn’t say ‘auto’ on the stalk. Thats because some RX8’s have an auto rain sensor, which the MX5 doesn’t. It should look exactly like the one in the above ebay advert
And you should be paying somewhere between £30-£40. Or you could try a local scrappy, now you know what you are looking for - here is a video of how to fit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVbqxJUcW_s
Got mine off a guy on ebay for £15 as i also purchased a foglight and light stalk off him.He normally sells them for £29.00 with £3 post.Dont pay MX5 parts price of £98.80 lol.
Pretty sure I used a Mazda 6 Saloon wiper stalk which is exactly the same as the RX8 unit and tend to be a bit cheaper. I paid about £15. Important don’t get a unit for a Mazda 6 hatchback - they have the rear wiper function.
