Saga used to have a ‘price match’ system which worked for many years. Then last year it disappeared and they lost 2 houses and two cars in a year. They must have changed their business model in the search for profit, so I changed mine in the search of better value. Nothing stays the same, you just have to work the current system to your advantage. or pay over the odds.
yes I agree, they used to match the best deal. just waiting for Saga to quote renewal for the house & the 5.
for some reason they would not quote on the phone yesterday but told me the renewal would be in the post & email within the next week. I reckon it’s to keep us waiting until about 2 - 3 weeks before end of term them we wont have enough time to shop around. Always found saga to be good and fair (have claimed twice in 12 years) but if they hit me with the £20 “admin fee” they will lose my business.
^^^ My current insurers in the small print (yes I read it all) say, renewals carry a £40 admin charge. Got the renewal no such charge shown or mentioned on the schedule.
Anyways because they haven’t contacted me as promised I’m all sorted re the Mk3, saved £36 there. Not a big saving but I’d be hard pushed to find cheaper, I’ve tried.
Next is this Saga quote, £188 for my daily, if I take that (unsure with the comments here) my two cars are sorted for less than £400, which was my aim.
Just had a dear friend visit us, she mentioned cars and insurance and said her last quote was near on £600. She’s been driving 30 years, no accidents, convictions etc, she drives a Ford Ka. She’s just renewed elsewhere for £300, I told her you’ve not tried hard enough, you do have a 14 day cooling off period.
As I mentioned in my post above Joe, that admin fee is all wrapped up in the price. From what I’ve gleaned it has to be mentioned now in all the small print, but I don’t think some still do.
Anyway I’ve been getting quotes from here there and everywhere and Saga are still way out there above everyone else with a sub £200 quote. (my daily car)
I’ve got a week left to decide who will make my car legal to drive for another year, because that’s the way I look at it now, sad to say. Of course a necessity but a frustrating and disappointing state of affairs this insurance business is.
Greenlight got my business for my Mk3, that was a refreshing experience to have a no nonsense quote from those people. Of course they said it’s best if you go elsewhere for your other, non modified car.
The Saga continues.
I just got the final quote from Saga to renew in a couple of weeks; it’s a 14% increase to £160- reasonable so I will stick with them again
