I used MP3tag to convert the tag TITLE to contain track number and title.
To do that I selected convert, tag to tag, and in the pop up select TITLE and %track% %title%, hit OK. That put track number into the title, so track number is displayed on the screen with the title whilst playing. The alphabetical order is now applied to the track number because its at the start. It works on mine anyway.
This has my (ex) coding monkey brain thinking now. I’ll play around with some ideas and then report back here. For what its worth I’ll also try to raise this with TomTom to see what they have to say (but I’m not holding my breath)…
First major use of the sat nav on Friday, ETA from Cardiff to London was 1916, then with live traffic updates of M25 delays of 50 mins expected there so rerouted via Slough and ETA grew to 1929. Would have made it except for red lights (arrived 1931!) - Point is I would have never been aware of the impact of the traffic hold up or an alternative route - so may well have been delayed to past 2000. One point in favour of renewing the live services when it expires end of August!
USB gets my vote (some reason not playing burned MP3 CD’s at all) - it also gives me a useful light in the glovebox! (TDK 8gb memory stick works fine)
MP3Tag (mp3tag.de/en)
worked a treat. The problem appears to lie in the fact that the
Sanyo unit is displaying tracks based upon the TITLE tag in the MP3
files – which contains the track title but not the track numbering
(there is a separate TRACK field that the unit appears to be
ignoring!). So, to get the MP3 tracks displayed in track order
rather than alphabetic order, we need to use MP3Tag to put the track
number information onto the front of the TITLE field…
Working from tcs17_tim
post, here’s what I did -
WARNING – if in
any doubt, make a backup by copying contents of your USB stick to a
location on your machine in case there is a problem!
Plug your USB
stick into your pc / laptop
Open the MP3Tag
application
Menu option File >
Change Directory
Navigate to the
root of your USB drive (in my case KINGSTON(F:))
Every track on the
USB stick should load into the main pane of MP3Tag
Control + A to
select all tracks
Menu option
Convert > Tag-tag
First box (Field)
should be set to TITLE
Second box (Format
string) – get rid of anything that is already in there
Click on the
triangle on the end of the Format string field and select TRACK
This should then
be populated within the Format string as %track%
Add a single space
to the Format string after %track%
Then add TITLE to
the Format string by using the triangle again (%title% should then
be visible in the Format string, after %track%)
Click on OK to
apply the changes
The update may
take a while (I did 1,400 tracks, which took about 10 mins)
Close the
application and don't forget to eject your USB stick before removing
it from your machine
Plug into your car
and test!
I've written this after
the event (whilst watching footie), so it would be good if a fellow
Venture owner could validate the instructions..
MP3tag can also put album art into the MP3 files as well so you get pretty graphics on the display whilst playing…
I have found that the CD with mp3’s and USB are pretty much the same for playing/sound but the USB is a bit quicker to work out the folders/filenames etc etc.
USB is certainly good enough that I wont be buying an ipod or ipod lead.
Hi, Just got my new MX-5 Venture 2.0 Sportech Coupe in Radiant Ebony to replace my black 2.0 Sportech coupe - no one notices I have a new car - not sure if that’s good or bad!
I love the Nav unit for navigation, although the voice recognition part seems a bit rubbish.
I was wondering if anyone knows whether the iPod connection works with an iPhone? It would make sense that you could plug it in, keep it charged from the car, bluetooth to the hands-free and music through the head unit but I can’t find any reference to this. I was going to buy a cable and see what happens but, if anyone has any idea if it will work it would be really helpful.
Apologies if I posted this incorrectly - it’s my first post!
The iPhone 4 certainly works as you have described - at least in my Radiant Ebony Coupe! The cable connects to all current model iPhones and iPods as far as I can tell - I have tried it with my son’s iPod Nano, my daughters iPod touch and my own iPhone 4.
Analogue audio and composite video passes from the Apple connector down to the three phono sockets in the glove box and the control signals plus power go via the USB socket. The phone functions via Bluetooth whether plugged in or out of the glove box connectors.
One point - my advice is to get a decent cable and avoid the cheapest possible route. My experience of Apple “compatible” cables is that you get what you pay for - I have purchased eBay charging cables in the past which faile to work although saying that, I am sure that you can source cables which are cheaper than those sold by Apple themselves at £30 each. Whether it is worth the potential hassle is down to the individual.
I bought this one from Amazon slightly cheaper and black (so less conspicuous). It works fine - even with videos - why video playback even though - how many people are watching tv shows in their MX5’s?!
On another note - to follow up a much earlier post in this forum regarding Tom Tom and the additional cost of the live services in comparison to the “normal” satnavs - the reply was words to the effect of “Mazda set this price” - I find this odd as Mazda can’t claim any of the cash for this and sounds like a fob off. I’ll be following up with Mazda to see what they have to say - I’d be betting they know nothing about this…
I Bought a lead off Amazon for £15 and it works ok apart from the video where I can’t see any pictures, not sure if I need an official one to get that to work?
On another note does anyone else have problems with connecting their phone every time you get in the car. The system remembers my phone but some times it connects automatically and sometimes I have to go into the phone menu and enable hands free calls ??
I have the same issue. Found that the best option is to place the phone near to the unit (ahead of the gear stick) and not use any of the functionality until the blue light on my BB blinks to show that there is a Bluetooth connection established.
Using an iPhone 4 and not done any exhaustive testing but I believe that you have to hit the “I agree” buttton on the SatNav touch screen before the SatNav unit will make any form of attempt at connecting to the mobile telephone. I think that it all works fine and dandy after that. Trouble is, (for me), I don’t use the phone often enough to confirm without question what I have just said! Would be good to hear from others to offer their findings.
Same as you - sometimes it seems to connect almost immediately, and sometimes I have to touch the phone icon and go in and force it to connect. I find best place for the BB is the drivers door cup holder. I do find sometimes the system disconnects fine from a call and sometimes the line is left open - forcing me to close the call. Overall though very happy with the system so far
I bought the cable from Amazon, (£14.99 one ) plugged it all together (iPhone 4S) and it just flashes up ‘ipod disconnected’ every two seconds or so and the iPhone home screen flashes as well. If I go to the source screen on the head unit, the ipod button is greyed out.
I have plugged in an old iPod Nano and that works perfectly, shows artists, albums, playlists and cover art.
Mine’s a blackberry and it doesnt work like that. Mine connects first time if phone bluetooth is on before turning the key and turning on the TomTom but is a bit irregular on connecting if TomTom is on when I turn on Bluetooth. I dont use mine that often as the other end usually cant hear me well enough to hold a sensible conversation. The normal comment is you sound too far away from the mic, even if I lean right in to the steering wheel!
