Sanyo Mazda NVA-SD8110 EU LIVE Mk3/3.5 Sat Nav - anyone got one?

Just picked up  pre reg Venture, dealer said 3 month live trial had not been activated yet, but no Activate live option on main menu now I’ve read the manual. Plus if I select my tomtom I get a coverage error 10. So I’ll be on the phone to tomtom in the am as I think they are more likely to know more than the dealer. Just a couple of questions though,

Is there a hidden SIM (and not sdcard) as the status screen does not report an IMEI code (and if there is a SIM, is it dealer or factory fitted?)

Anyone have any problems with a partial phonebook transfer? (blackberry 9800)

TIA

Craig

I have had mine 7 weeks and have what sounds like the same issue, mine had been in twice and they clearly dont know how to fix it. On mine Error 10 shows when trying the Live menus but there is another crucial menu option, somewhere in settings that gets you the softrware and map version numbers etc and on that screen is a network button - it takes you into the mobile phone settings. Mine has no number next to SIM or IMEI and the antennae stmbol shows it has no signal.

Like you I believe there is a SIM card fault but they dont get it and have swapped my SD card, then claimed my trial had run out. I pointed out I havent had it 3 months yet.  I have no idea why they cant fix it.

Whilst it was in I managed to look through their online tech guide and yes there is a SIMcard but its on the bottom of the unit so it has to come out to get at it.

On Friday they promised me to call me on Monday to say what to do next. This will be the third time and I am going to be pushing for them to swap the unit - there is an identical unit in a Mazda 6 in the showroom…they claim that wont work in an MX but I am sure thats crap.

and yes I have trouble with the phone book transfer, I get half a dozen numbers for the people with names starting with A, B and C and it cant doiwnload anyone else…downside of a Blackberry with all the Outlook data in it. However the microphone is not good enough to use most of the time so I dont worry about it much.

Call logged (no live and partial phonebook transfer) with tomtom support, just sent them detailed system information. Will update the forum as and when I get updates,

update - 2nd level support said that as the sim/server looked correct from their end and I’d done the factory reset/soft reset process it looked like a hardware issue. So they advised  me to contact the dealer for what I imagine will be a head swap. Now awaiting a call from the warranty manager at the dealer who, I’m told, has several tomtom cases on the go.

replacement head unit on order so it’ll be a trip to the dealer in a couple of weeks

Jealous now, your dealer sorted it out within days mine still hasnt sorted it in 2 months.  Thanks for update will use to put pressure on my dealer.

Hope it helps. The main thing I think is to get the email from tomtom confirming there’s nothing they can do and that they require the dealer to sort out the unit under warranty. This took me about 5 days from logging the call with tomtom to getting the final update in my tomtom support account.

NB if you call tomtom from the car on your mobile, and you want to avoid any 08 mobile charges, 02073 875444 (courtesy www.saynoto0870.com) works well.

Whilst there’s still a chance that tomtom can fix it remotely, the dealer risks not being reimbursed under warranty for any work they do that tomtom may say in the end was not necessary.

Cheers for that. Will try it

Hi

I have a venture with the inbuilt sat nav and I emailed TomTom asking about speed related volume, I find the lack of it a real pain in the behind

Got the reply below so maybe we should start a campaign to get all Mazda owners with this sat nav fitted to raise a case with TomTom, probably won’t get us anywhere but if we don’t try we won’t get.

Other than that the car is great, although it did manage to get hit by two stones in its first 400 miles

TomTom response below

Thank you for your email.

The option to link volume to car speed is a feature that has appeared on several of our stand alone units in the past but presently isnt available on our automotive device.

I have passed your comments on the feature to our software development team, and although I dont know if this is a feature they intend to add in the future, the more pressure from customer such as yourself the more likely (and quicker) a feature will be implemented via a software update in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to make the suggestion as one of the best ways we can improve our products is through customer feedback.

If you do have any more queries, please don't hesitate to contact me or one of my colleagues and we will be more than happy to help.

I was thinking of doing the same as the unit obviously has all the inputs it needs so its just a software change.

I will riase the same request, where did you do it? DO you have a link?

ditto…

plus how to cancel a TA without having to turn them off

usb play order

playlists

pause music playback during a phone call…

Hi

I just went in to my TomTom account and into the support section, once you dig through the relevant bits you can ask a question specific to this device

Same unit is in other mazdas as well I believe, does anyone have an account on a general Mazda forum, if so it would be good to post there too.

Stuart

I have done that and complained about my Live services and suggested a software update to adjust volume by speed.

She is booked in dealer again and after being very aggresive they suggested they might try swapping the head unit for another one to see if that resolved the fault. Fingers crossed they will sort it out this time.

My response from TomTom is not so positive…

I have also checked and unfortunately we do not have any plans for
further application updates that may allow you to link the volume to the
car speed.

Need more people to comment.

mmm, not what i had hoped. I find it amazing that they didnt include it in the first instance, it has all of the information it needs to do this but not the time or effort to develop it.

I dont think TomTom do things other than basic navigation very well at all. As you say we need more people to comment, i assume there must be general mazda forums but probably not so active. Also I believe that the venture was sold in Europe as the “Spring Edition” so maybe a few foreign owners might pick it up and contact TomTom.

Not the end of the world really but would be nice if it was there.

Maybe we should start a specific thread about it rather than buried at the end of this one.  I will start a specific one.

Dealer phoned, replacement head unit is in; now just need to book car in. Will keep y’all posted

Craig

Mine is finally fully working, they changed the head unit…really shouldnt have needed four visits to do it though…

Head changed, all now working. One Mazda should add to their pre dealer ship check list.

Well done! as yours is fixed mine has gone on the blink (sure it’ not connected!)

After some difficulty I renewed after my free 3 months and all well until today - accessing live services comes up with Error Code 14 (Live services do not work abroad or where no coverage) Checked status and showing disconnected - annoying as things were working fine previously!  - Do you think Mazda may wish they never put the sat nav’s in the Ventures!!

Contacted TomTom awaiting a response - keep you posted
