Sanyo Mazda NVA-SD8110 EU LIVE Mk3/3.5 Sat Nav - anyone got one?

Hi

Yes its the same as I was looking at the 2013 model the other day

SHould also have said that for any ipod or iphone to work that you cannot just use the normal sync and charge cable, you need the apple ( or equivalent) cable that has the follwing

Ipod connector

USB connectore

Audi ( left and right phono type)

and in my case

Video ( Composite phono)

This is the same as mine, not vouching for the supplier it was just what came up in google first.

http://www.evertop.co.uk/p/1177528/Original-Apple-Audio-Video-Cable-with-USB-TV-Cable-For-Apple-iPhone-GS-G-G-iPad-iPod-Touch-iPod-Nano-iPod-Classic---Original-AV-Cable.html?gclid=CPixk5maw7YCFXHLtAodiUIATA

I know some people have used ebay variations, I have always used an original apple version just because i already had one.

USB send commands back and forth and the phono connectors send the analogue music and video signals

REally annoingly you can’t conenct any other video or audi device in to the phono type connectors as only apple products work

I’m going to try the bluetooth adaptor on the end of the cable, see what happens !

Will let you know

Stuart

Is anyone else using the Live services on this unit?

I bought a subscription which wouldnt work, a call to TomTom and they claimed it wasnt the right one (it was for speed cams which I didnt want) but based on a photo of the packaging which had very unclear guidance as to what it was and they activated it for traffic.  However it is now intermittently failing to get a connection to download this data.

The car isnt a year old yet and this is my second head unit, the first one never got traffic data, the second one has lasted for about 9 months…both had the same issue a failure in the communications to the TomTom servers.

Anyone else suffering similar issues?

Mazda are not good at diagnosing issues, I also have very poor call quality on the bluetooth unit, I think it needs a new microphone but they wont change it without spending a day diagnosing and each time they test it they report No Fault Found - try talking whilst driving is my response …

I plugged my SD card into the pc before the 3 months trial was up to see whether I was due any updates but it didnt say so. I have now plugged it in again and surprise surprise there have been 8 map updates…but guess what its going to cost…not full price of £75 but only £52.46.  Scam eh, less than a year old and I am 8 maps out of date…

[/quote]

I had to speak with TomTom to resolve this as well, TomTom Home sneakily puts the map guarantee option in the menus at the top of the window so if you are in your 3 month trial, make sure you go to the toolbar at the top of the window, click tools, use latest map guarantee.  I didnt and so didnt get the map update until I complained about it.

Mine stopped working for traffic a few weeks back for over a week

tried a few things and rebuilt the sd card completely to no avail, it didn’t even recognise that it had a sim in it ( I do mean sim not sd card)

Then it just started again, further web searches and it looks like TomTom have had a number of issues with their servers. Thinking I may be better of not spending money on updates at all and just replacingbthenhead unit with something decent.

Final note , back to previous posts and the Bluetooth adaptor didn’t work, however it did work with my civic so it’s now in that.

When it is in failed mode the Sim card and MMC/MNC data are blank.  I have watched the live connection status in network menu and when I start up it is all there but the top two disappear when it fails. I am thinking intermittent connection on the SIM but you cant get at the SIM card without removing the whole unit (how stupid is that?)

Its a real shame as the head unit was one of the selling points of the Venture model.

I updated my map easily enough but the new map is still crap.  I had to turn off the speed warning bleep because it was screaming at me going down Great Western Way in Swindon at 50mph (limit has been 50 for about two years, TomTom thinks it’s still 40).  It doesn’t have the important Wichelstowe feeder road (from Croft Road to Wootton Bassett Road) which has been open for over a year - it either thinks you’re on the M4 or driving across a field Sad.

My only other gripes are:

  1. I can’t put all my music on a USB stick.  It only seems to cope with a certain number of albums.

  2. If I turn it off, it always turns itself back on with the ignition.  It’s best to park it on “AUX” to stop music blasting out the moment you turn the key.

I don’t use the satnav really (I only chose the Venture for the leather seats and the colour) but it did get me through Milton Keynes on voice directions OK when I had to find the Mazda dealer.

Yesterday I part-ex’d my Venture - just too many compromises / let-downs.  One of the factors was the poor performance from the Sat Nav unit. Rubbish for phone calls, no speed sensitive volume, average speed alerts driving me mad, and lots of minor irritations like not being able to use the unit without the ignition in place, not reading USB track numbers correctly, bugs with the interface when returning to USB (repeat enabled but shuffle disabled – the exact opposite of how it was left) and, as mentioned above, audio firing up whenever you restart the ignition.

Well, I don’t use the phone when driving, I can turn off speed camera alerts (they’re just a tool for people who habitually speed, anyway) and the USB track numbers are fixable in MP3tag, fairly easily.  The speed sensitive volume is a surprising omission but I’ve only ever had it on one previous car.

In the end I bought the car for driving, not for listening to the stereo Big Smile

Casting aspersions there I think Stick Tongue Out  I’m very conscious of the speed I’m doing - but it can be useful to have the alert in place when you are in an unfamiliar area, just in case you have missed a speed reduction.

Yep, this is what I did - just a bit disaapointed that the unit couldn’t read the existing track number field.  Then again, maybe I’m being unfair here and the unit was looking in the right place (maybe the ripping software got it wrong?)

It was on my Mondeo from 13 years ago - just assumed it was industry standard these days…

Tried to use the car as my ‘daily driver’ - for which I’d want radio / music to work well (and the ability to handle phone calls very occasionally).  For pure driving pleasure I have a Caterham - not really bothered about the audio when driving it Big Smile

I use mine as a daily driver too but have rarely used bluetooth but at the first service they finally agreed to change the microphone and it now works.

I dont use TomTom speed alerts but get POI files form pocketgpsworld.com - much more accurate with weekly updates - just have to bring the SD card indoors occasionally. I must admit though after wanting an integrated satnav for a long time I dont like the way the navigation announcments and speed cam alerts turn the music down, to the extent I have turned off voice guidance I just glance at the map periodically.

Lack of speed controlled volume is an amazing and frankly stupid omission, I have had it on my last 3 cars and it is far more relevant in the MX5 than any of them.

I have no issues with USB, mp3tag sorted that within a few days.

Dont understand the issue with turning on, when I turn the ignition on I want the music on…

Has anyone cracked the reversing camera onto the screen? It is supposed to be possible but I tried plugging a camera into the connector and couldnt get it on the screen, maybe you have to get at the back of the unit.

I’ve just updated my live subscription again for £55 and with the SD card out I updated the software which then wiped my home address and all my previously stored destinations in favorites.

Great hey, but I suppose it is expected as I am sure I had to do that last year after the 3 month free period ended and I updated bits and pieces then.

Better than nothing especially since it is built in rather than stuck to my windscreen as the tomtom was in my previous MX5, but it still has a long way to go.

Hello All…

After some serious effort, I managed to get an OLD ipod and AV cable to work for my 2013 MX5 Venture. However, the cable i bought from Apple only connects intermittently, sometimes ipod is recognised, sometimes not…hugely frustrating!!

I have just been down to the local Mazda dealer to purchase a mazda AV cable and hope that this is somehow different and allows the ipod to be recognised everytime. It took 30mins for the dealer to find the cable in question, first suggesting that Mazda wouldnt supply such a thing (even though they supply the connection!). The cable should arrive next week so I hope to be able to tell you if its better.

Has anyone else had connection/recognition issues for ipods/apple cables in the MX5 Venture 12/13? is there a workaround?

cheers

Like a fair few people i’ve been having problems with live services not working on the sat nav in the venture. I have been in discussion with TomTom over a period of time and today I got this reply. It looks as if they have a bigger prblem than just one or two units playing up.

I intend to send this on to my dealer to at least make them aware, that way if it turns out that the unit needs repalcing i can use this as evidence

Any others out there had the same type of response?

Hi Alan,

I’ve just got a new 2.0 Sport Tech Nav and i managed to connect my iPhone 5 (IOS 7.0)  using the Apple Lightning to 30 pin adapter and the music plays fine.

I don’t know if the unit from my car is any different from yours, but it works. I’m using a composite cable from Tesco (about £18.00)

Mick

Just bought a March 2013 sport tech nav which appears to be fitted with the same Sanyo/TomTom unit as the Venture model.

I have an iPhone with lightning connector so will be trying the various cable options suggested above and on previous pages to enable me to play music from it. I assume I will need the composite/USB to dock connector lead plugged into the car and then the dock to lightning adapter between that and my phone?

Incase this doesnt work very well, has anyone found the maximum size of USB stick and the maximum number of tracks that the unit can handle?

I have approx 32Gb of music so if going to use the USB stick, I will need to copy a subset of favourite tracks onto it or may get an old iPod nano/classic to leave in the car instead.

Will report back when I get the car next weekend.

I have a new Sport Tech Nav, the TomTom was great for the first three free months but even though I took out the subscription I cannot connect to live services. Poor show.

My little write up about the Sanyo tomtom unit
