I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Fitting a new head unit to replace the existing Sanyo NVA-SD8110 unit.
I’m looking to replace the factory nav and was wondering if I could use the existing fascia with a new double din unit from the usual manufacturers?
More specifically I’ve bought a Pioneer SPH DA77DABS which actually has a single din chassis but at the bottom so not sure if the existing fascia will fit. From what I’ve read it looks like it works with some units but not others? If I could avoid buying a new fascia it would save me a few quid.
I’ve been told by Dynamic Sounds that apart from the parking brake wire, it should be plug and play so fingers crossed! However if anyone know how to wire the parking brake bypass to the Pioneer harness it would really help me out.
Why not just wire the handbrake cable as it should be.
By the time you have the centre console out so you can fully remove the stereo - it will only need a wire bringing to the handbrake area to connect up that function.
You can see the wires at the front edge of the handbrake boot in this picture
Won’t fit.
A chap on here tried to make one fit once but gave up.
Same model/year as mine and you will need a new one and they look like an OEM one.
This model number CONNECTS 2 FACIA CT24MZ20
I’ve just looked at that unit and see what you mean regarding the setup.
I guess it’s the “standard” size double din height and width wise?
As if it’s smaller then you “might” get away with the existing fascia.
Unfortunately I was unable to unplug the TomTom harness from the main harness so I just put everything back together for now.
Found someone who does these installs and he advised me that the DynamicSounds harness and SWC controls wouldn’t work with my car as the buttons are different (though there’s lots of evidence on this forum and elsewhere that it does). Anyway I purchased the InCarTec harness as per their advice but then decided not to go with them for other reasons.
Anyone used the InCarTec harness and can confirm it works? It looks like this one plugs into the existing TomTom harness as opposed to the main one but other than that I’m hoping it will work as normal (SWC, rear speakers, etc).
I had the same setup as you from the factory (2013 NC Sports Graphite with the Sanyo unit). I fitted a Sony double DIN head unit. I used the DyanmicSounds harness and my steering wheel controls work (although the track up/down only seems to work about 50% of the time).
In my car, Mazda had used an adapter harness to plug into the Sanyo. I unplugged that and the Dynamic Sounds harness then plugged straight into the connectors which were left.
I know you’re already a way into this… but I would recommend the Sony head unit I got (3005DB) as it (luckily) fit into the OEM fascia. You can get them for £350 new… I got mine off of eBay second hand for £210.
Yep Steering Wheel Controls. So like you I did purchase the Connect2 harness from Dynamic Sounds and went to install it but I was unable to unplug the adapter harness from the Mazda harness so left it.
Interesting that you say your track buttons work only some of the time as that’s the first I’ve heard of SWC issues. Perhaps the person I spoke to about fitting knew this and hence recommended the InCarTec harness which is designed to work with the buttons on our wheel (we have a mute button whereas Bose NCs have a phone button).
Unfortunately the return window on my Pioneer has passed otherwise I would’ve looked at the Sony!
May I ask why?
As it’s cloth taped together right at the back(front of the car) and mine just pulled apart.
Likewise, the connects 2 wiring harness worked a treat.
Mine is a 2013 2…0 Sport Tech Nav as yours.
(Well is currently a paper weight at the moment ,but that’s another story).
The large grey foam covered socket is the main harness one.
As Scarletpimpernel says, when you’ve unplugged your TomTom unit track the harness back (it may be covered in a foam sheaf) to that plug shown above. This is were you plug your purchased harness in. Not sure on that Mazda premacy harness, give it a go or cross reference it for fitting your model too.
Sometimes you need to change the small lead for the steering controls to work, they are head unit brand dependent, they sometimes include a universal lead, one fits all type of lead.
Yep I traced it back to the harness covered in foam unwrapped the foam and everything but physically couldn’t unplug the Sanyo harness. Maybe I wasn’t strong enough or didn’t push down the tab enough but the two just weren’t separating
I’ve since returned the Dynamic Sounds Harness and purchased the InCarTec harness which I’ve been told has complete functionality with the SWC, and also connects to the plug that goes into the Sanyo unit, not the the Mazda harness that was tucked away.
I’ll see what happens but if it does work then at least it’s another way to connect a head unit for our models. (InCarTec is slightly cheaper too though I’m aware you’ll probably get better support with DynamicSounds)
I can confirm you can use the InCarTec TomTom SWC harness for our units and it all works fine. Volume up/down, track up/down, mute, and mode buttons all work. Shame that there isn’t a pause button on the wheel as well. Also for my Pioneer unit, the existing fascia fitted so didn’t need to use the one I bought.
Overall a great quality of life and audio upgrade!
