Sat Nav SD Card Update

Has anybody come across this way (see link below) for updating the Sat Nav on the MZD-Connect system? It cost a fraction of the price of an update purchased from Mazda.

I wonder how it gets around the fact that on the Mazda each Sat Nav SD card is coded to the car it is installed in and SD cards cannot be swapped around from car to car.

Interesting. I’ve seen similar discounted cards on sale on eBay and wondered if they are copies? As cards are locked to the car VIN once activated, assume they can’t be copied from one already supplied with a new car?

It’s a heck of a discount on the regular price.

I’ve “converted” to Apple Maps on my iPhone with Car Play and don’t use the in-built satnav now that the 3 year anniversary has come and gone although I do still get the speed camera warning and “reduce your speed” from the car (only occasionally of course!).

I like Apple Maps as it’s easier (for me) to choose way points and alternative routes on the iPhone indoors or whilst out-and-about, such as a comfort break or coffee shop etc.

I also have the stand-alone free satnav program HERE We Go which is the smartphone version using the same maps by HERE that Mazda uses.

I hesitantly purchased one of these from a different company for our ND1 and it worked perfectly including free 3 years of updates.
However, I notice that they say in their advert that it does NOT support updates.
If any ND2 onwards owners try one, then please let the rest of us know how you get on.
