What MX5 generation or system do you have?
On the ND, pressing the mute/volume control will mute whichever of the audio/sat nav sources is active at that instant. So if you mute the radion the sat nav voice will still be audible, and vice versa. Similarly, the volume of each can be controlled separately by using the same control.

[HI Thanks for reply. Will not work as suggested. New to this car so will keep trying. The car is a 2012 MX5 Venture. The first model that fitted the Sanyo Tom Tom. Many thanks for your help. Managed to get working with volume turned low but will not work with Mute selected
OK, different unit to mine.
Can you adjust the volume separately (as is also usual with RDS traffic announcements)? If so you could turn the radio to minimum.
