Scam by fellow member?

Hi I just recently bought a K&N panel filter of fellow member goodall1967, three weeks ago, sadly it has never arrived
I don’t know if the delivery company has lost it has he never supplied a tracking number
It could be a genuine loss or a scam by him but beware if dealing with him

All buy/sell transactions are at your own risk and unfortunately sometimes things do go wrong.

To give the member a chance, have you contacted him so he can contact the delivery company on your behalf? That’s the normal procedure I’d follow, I would also show a proof of posting if via RM when sent, if I were the seller.

Hi I have been in touch with him twice to get tracking number etc
But nothing back from him
Very sad but it may turn up

Scammed me last year. After i paid, he stopped responding. I raised the issue with the club, but the only recourse the club offered was to highlight the ‘buyer beware’ post. I tried to warn buyers about his latest sale, but my post was blocked by a moderator.

That’s poor then on his part, you expect at least he’d come back and check the forum and any messages sent.
I always ask any buyer to confirm delivery to me by message, yours does sounds dodgy but again, who knows some delivery services these days are poor.
It took RM 8 days to deliver a birthday card, we considered it lost until it was confirmed delivered.:woozy_face:

Have you checked when the last time he was online? Meaning, has he logged on after you sent him the messages?

In may case, I have requested an update from the seller, via a number of PM over the course of the last six months, in addition to phone messages, and whatsapp messages. He has not replied to any. As far as i am aware he has now blocked my phone number, and simply deletes my whatsapp messages to him. As stated earlier, my attempt to warn others and contact him via his latest activity a week or so ago was blocked by a moderator. Had it not been blocked, perhaps the OP could have been more wary…

Is he a member of the MX-5 Owners’ Cub, or just a forum member?

If it’s the former, then you could report the issue to Action Fraud and they could obtain his contact details from the club. It’s possible that a call from a police officer may be sufficient to persuade him to send the item or refund. If you liaise with @masterofnone, you could include his experience when you make the report.

Also, how did you pay? PayPal? Bank Transfer? Credit Card? You may have recourse through the payment processer.

Yes, why it would have been blocked is anyone’s guess.
Either way, sorry to read about your story, too.
I’ve only ever sent/sold something once, on another forum. And the other dude was also super organised, and not only were tracking numbers given, but we contacted each other every day until it was delivered! Wouldn’t life be easier if every transaction/involved party was like that!

That seems a poor response, I would have expected the club to contact the seller, and if they got no response the account should have been suspended.

You wrote a reply to a for sale post which is always rejected as replies are by PM only.

As highlighted fairly regularly through various posts and banners all for sale transactions are personal between the two parties.

As moderators or administrators of this forum we have no mechanism to intervene in a dispute between individuals except where it trangresses the rules of behaviour on the forum.

If a regulatory agency were to get involved then the club would respond in accordance with the relevant law.

I have no reason to doubt either poster who has complained, however on this medium it’s an allegation only.

On the basis that two members have reported issues we have asked the seller to contact them directly to resolve the issues, can they please advise me by direct message when this has happened.

I’m going to close this thread temporarily pending a resolution.
