Scenic Road recommendations in Snowdonia area?

Ddiwrnod da to any Welsh MX5 owners.

Any recommendations for good driving roads around the lower Snowdonia area please?

We are staying near to Dolgellau for a few nights the week after next and would like to know any scenic routes in the area that are worth driving in an MX5.

Thanks, Cliff Laughing

Dolgellau to Bala A494
Bala to Blaenau FFestiniog A4212 / B4391
or try a detour off onto B4407 A5 to Betws-y-coed
and then A470 back to Blaenau

and A470 back to where you started

ENJOY !!!

(have a great holiday in Wales, and don’t forget to wave!)

Oh, and they have just opened a massive zip line in Blaenau if you want some ‘fast scenery’

This is an old thread but I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who contributed to list of great driving roads in Wales. We took a copy of the Google map (https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?hl=en&authuser=0&mid=10siZxFUjSVfgj0w4yDQAx_qKzQk&ll=53.508892784972005%2C-3.9966838129428197&z=8) and plotted out a route.

We met up with family in Morton In Marsh as we traveled west from our home.  We didn’t expect much before we got to Wales until the sat nav sent us down some long, straight and traffic free B roads from Morton In Marsh up to Tewkesbury, a great start to the holiday!

We stopped at the Hardwick, near Abergavenny.  Lovely food, service and rooms for a night away then headed down the A40 through the Brecon Beacons.  A483 > B4519 Upper Chapel (a stunning road!) > Rhayader and Gigrin Farm to see the Red Kites.  We stopped again at Montegomery, another foodie place called Checkers (another recommendation for food and a lovely, historic town).

We headed back south to the B4518 at Llanidloes and up to Snowdonia via the Mach loop.  When we left the next day we happened to travel down the B4396 towards a village called Knockin, traffic free, beautiful flowing roads in some stunning Welsh countryside.  Then a boring drive back down the motorway.

The journey could not have been any better!  We loved the car (a 2.0ltr Sport Black) and loved the chance to finally use it, top down, through sweeping country roads as we had planned when we got it last year.

Sounds brilliant, glad you enjoyed it. We spend most of our drive time motoring around Wales, there are many more great drives around there for next trip
