Just removed SORN by taxing my beloved MX-5 and off to my caravan in North Yorkshire on Monday for a short break. Can’t wait to get back on country roads again!
Isn’t the vehicle taxation system grossly unfair. Paying £360 to do 3500-4000 miles p.a. = 10p per mile just to put it on the road. I mainly use Shell V-Power E5 and my emissions are extremely low at MOT time. I consider that I am polluting far less than other cars covering say 10000 miles p.a. which fall into a lower tax band.

Or 10 p per day. Not a lot really is it? Choices…it’s one core reason SWMBO and I got both our ( old) 5s sold 3 years back. TBH.
Our motoring overheads have dropped like a piano down a lift shaft. Just got out of hand on pensions. The resultant savings account for about 70% of the new car’s PP payments in terms of taxes which finish next year, MOT “results” (gulp), 24/28 mpg urban and constant upkeeps you will get with old cars. Everyone is unique though.
£360 = £1.00 per day not 10p!
My 2011 2.0L RC averages just under 39 mpg which is quite acceptable.
Having owned a 2001 MK2 1.6 Isola previously I much prefer my MK3.5
It is extremely cheap to insure - approx. £110 p.a. and reliable.
I’m 6’ and the MK4 seems cramped. There is also a lack of storage space.

Never heard that one before, it reminded me of Laurel and Hardy and the piano that rolled down a really long flight of stone steps.

At work we occasionally wondered how many takes (and how many pianos) made up the final sequence.
And then reflected what we were trying to do was so much simpler…
Yes, and thinking about it, how many trips did poor old Oliver Hardy make to the first aid room!

I’ve just watched it again on utube.
Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!
In a way all that very clever and convincing slapstick reminded me of the time I was under the car and a spanner slipped off a particularly recalcitrant exhaust nut.
My head was reflex-ing back and forth three inches from car to floor to car to floor to car and I had to consciously bang my head still on the floor because with the thin bit of scrap carpet the concrete was softer…
