Scotland trip in May

Some time in May we will be taking my 1991 NA on another tour (did Spain, Andorra, France, Jersey in 2024). Sheffield to Skipton, Forest of Bowland, Keswick, Ardrossan, Western isles then Oban, on through Cairngorms to Ballater then a few nights in Edinburgh. Down East coast to Amble then a few nights in Saltburn. After that home for a rest then off on our narrowboat for the summer.

This might be my last year with my cherished little car. At 76 it’s getting harder to get in and out. I’ve got three grandkids each expecting some free wheels, I can’t favour one without upsetting the others so my only option will be to sell. That is going to be a real wrench, I couldn’t relinquish my motorbike, it’s in the corner of the garage now.

My mother once told me “It’s no fun getting owd lad”. How right she was.

Doing my best to enjoy the last years. To all of you be healthy, be lucky and be safe.

Don’t give up. At 81 I keep going. I recommend twice a week swimming and exercise session in the pool. Do at least 1 hour per session.

My session is £3.50 for the hour. Works wonders for my lower back.

Let the kids sort out thier own wheels!

Let the grandchildren earn their own “wheels”. It’s character building! You must be one of best Papas on the planet. Harrumph…Im off to rustle through my Guardian then fine some editorial to complain about.

Or sell your NA and try an NC. More space, comfort and refinement in my opinion.

Bear in mind the Ardrossan to Campbeltown ferry hasn’t run for about 3 years now, but you can get across to Brodick on Arran then go from Lochranza to claonaig or Tarbert. Also there’s a car show on 16th of may in Clachan 12pm -5pm (I’m bringing my v-spec) Clachan Classics

I saw that the ferry has been stopped ( I bet there are no MSPs affected). We plan to go toNrodick and on to Tarbert.

Thanks

i tirned prefictive text off because it take too long to add adjectives.

Actually Stephen I rather fancy a Bentley Arnage. It has been a fantasy since I first saw and drove one. I know it cant compare to the MX experience but it satifies in a different way ( until it’s wallet openning time).

I had a red 2001 MK2 1.6 Isola and now own a 2011 MK3.5 2.0 SE RC in copper red. I am 80 in August and hope to drive it for some time. Unfortunately, I had an op on New Year’s Eve to remove a cancerous kidney and my surgeon advised me not to drive it for 3 months so I decided to SORN it until April to save the cost of tax.

Driving my Yeti and my wife’s Picanto in the meantime.

Can’t wait to get back into the MX-5!

You’re still cool… I’m almost 60, I hope that when I’m 76 I still have your will to see the world from the seat of an MX-5…

Hi,

Is that your border collie? - I’m not a dog owner but I love to often see border collies in the Yorkshire Dales on the fringe of which we have a static caravan.

Also love Labradors - our daughter and son Iaw have a lovely 5 year old black one.

That was Archie and he was my beloved Springer Spaniel. Had him for 14 years but lost him about 4 years ago. It was like losing my shadow and I still miss him terribly. Brilliant brilliant dog!

Looks like you two were best mates. More than “just a dog”. Theres no such thing as being " just a dog" Ask any Police Handler when they stand between them and a blade or bullet. My son trains the handlers amongst other things…but not the dogs. They never leave me in anything else but jaw dropping awe.

You’ve just made me cry!!:rofl:. He was probably the best friend I ever had. Which would tie in with my thoughts on most people. I could, and do, bore people senseless with stories about him.

Rest easy little man.

What a lovely looking dog! Some pets are preferable to some relatives.
You must have been in bits after losing him.

Absolutely. Still am in some ways. Didn’t help that I lost him about 3 months after losing my mum.
