19-22 June
Summer
Solstice is at [O] 0645hrs GMT/UTC on 21 June. This the time that the Sun
is at its closest to the earth giving the longest day of the year.
Come
to the Highlands of Scotland and enjoy the delights of the longest
day of the year and the beautiful late evening light. Rather than
have an extended drive with multi-night stops we will use as a base
Carbisdale Castle. There is no set program at the moment but the idea
is to have late in the day! a short evening or “night” drive, if
it gets dark! enough, Then during the day follow circular routes
across the highlands.
Cape
Wrath, is only a 3 hour drive to the most NW part of the UK, with
little more than an hour to the west coast and a good lunch stop
would be the top rated Kylesku Hotel:
http://www.kyleskuhotel.co.uk/
with
beautiful lochs and mountains along the way.
Enjoy the local area with
a stay in local hostelries or this Scottish Castle, the base of the
event, Carbisdale:
http://www.syha.org.uk/hostels/highlands/carbisdale_castle.aspx
This
is part of the Scottish YHA and accommodation from as little as £18
is available with at the moment 2x4 bed rooms and 2x6 bed rooms
available for sole use. Note you do not need to be a full member to
use the facilities and temporary membership is only £1. Dinners
are available for £9.95 for 3 courses and breakfast for £4.95
or you can self cater.
There
are B&B other hotels in the area less grandeurs than a Castle but
offering conventional comfort.
Why
not make a visit. I have reserved 20 places at Carbisdale until 6 April. I will be there all 3 nights. After 6 April make booking direct on first come basis but state you are the MX5 group. Note it is a hostel so you may have to share if smaller rooms have been taken. There is other B&B or
Hotels close by at Ardgary and Bonar Bridge.
Please
let me know of interest. More details of routes nearer the time but
samples of possibilities can be found on the Carbisdale website at:
