19-22 June

Summer
Solstice is at [O] 0645hrs GMT/UTC on 21 June. This the time that the Sun
is at its closest to the earth giving the longest day of the year.

Come
to the Highlands of Scotland and enjoy the delights of the longest
day of the year and the beautiful late evening light. Rather than
have an extended drive with multi-night stops we will use as a base
Carbisdale Castle. There is no set program at the moment but the idea
is to have late in the day! a short evening or “night” drive, if
it gets dark! enough, Then during the day follow circular routes
across the highlands.

Cape
Wrath, is only a 3 hour drive to the most NW part of the UK, with
little more than an hour to the west coast and a good lunch stop
would be the top rated Kylesku Hotel:

http://www.kyleskuhotel.co.uk/

Kylesku

with
beautiful lochs and mountains along the way.

Lochs and Mountains of Highlands

Enjoy the local area with
a stay in local hostelries or this Scottish Castle, the base of the
event, Carbisdale:

Carbisdale

http://www.syha.org.uk/hostels/highlands/carbisdale_castle.aspx

This
is part of the Scottish YHA and accommodation from as little as £18
is available with at the moment 2x4 bed rooms and 2x6 bed rooms
available for sole use. Note you do not need to be a full member to
use the facilities and temporary membership is only £1. Dinners
are available for £9.95 for 3 courses and breakfast for £4.95
or you can self cater.

There
are B&B other hotels in the area less grandeurs than a Castle but
offering conventional comfort.

Carbisdale Gallery

Why
not make a visit. I have reserved 20 places at Carbisdale until 6 April. I will be there all 3 nights. After 6 April make booking direct on first come basis but state you are the MX5 group. Note it is a hostel so you may have to share if smaller rooms have been taken. There is other B&B or
Hotels close by at Ardgary and Bonar Bridge.

Please
let me know of interest. More details of routes nearer the time but
samples of possibilities can be found on the Carbisdale website at:

As mentioned elsewhere, very interested Graham. Sounds great.

There is no camping at Carbisdale Castle but there are sites locally within 10 minutes drive. e.g.

 Hi folks

Please note that this event is not being organised by the MX-5 Owners Club nor any of the Club Areas…  thanks… [:)]

Just seeing if you are still interested. Not many respondents on the site but does not seem very busy [|-)] in general. The event is in the latest STHT which most will get today or over the weekend so there maybe more interest. I have been able to extend the reservations at the Castle until end of play on Monday 6 April but will not be able to hold further without a deposit payment. [^o)]

[:-*]

Hello all,

This event is being organised by a member of MX5 OC for the benefit of, thus open to all Club members from all areas and not open to the general Public. It is an MX-5 OC event. [8-)] to promote the use and enjoyment
of the car through safe driving and an environment within which MX-5 owners and
enthusiasts can meet.

This event is not being supported by the Owners Club or any official of the Club so far as I am aware.  That makes a difference.  Club events carry certain liabilities on the Club itself and are covered by the Club public liability insurance.  This is a private event and therefore not covered.  To call it an MX5 Owners Club event is therefore misleading.  Should you wish to have this considered as an official event please do this through your local Area Coordinator or the Club National events team organisers.

If I have misunderstood the situation please contact me with the details of the Club official involved.  Thanks.

Seeing as we live up in the Highlands and love the roads up here we will join in somewhere along the route.

Martin & Kirsty

SCOTTISH HIGHLAND SOLCTICE FLING ROUTES

You may need to copy and paste into browser or email me for copy.

Very much looking forward to this! Is there any update on the timings?

Bob and Ishbel

 High Bob,

Great to here you are joining us.

Timings are on the Sat/Sun aim to start out around 10am from Carbisdale. For the drive up from Balmoral on the Friday depends on numbers that will be joining, and whether everone would like to stop for a meal. It is flexible at the moment but it is a 2-3 hours drive so looking at sometime after 4pm which allowing for stops should be at Carbisdale by 10pm.

Let me know the days you are coming and details.

I’ll copy this to your PM/email.

Regards,

Graham
