I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __removing scuff marks
Hi all,
Whilst cleaning the interior yesterday I was annoyed by the scuff marks on the door panels.
A while ago I had read a solution to remove these, but I am not sure if it was on this forum or somewhere else. I have tried the search function but could not find it.
Any advise on how and if it is possible to remove these scuff/ scratch marks ?
I use a product called Autoglym vinyl & rubber care. It’ll clear up or mask most of the scuffs, the deep ones it may not work so well. Overall though it’ll look much better around that area with a regular application.
I’ve not tried it myself so don’t know about the results but one way seems to be heat. Watching the videos it seems to make the panel look a bit shiny but I wonder if this is because its still warm.
Anyone tried it?
Search eBay for some stuff called “Pink Sheen”. Great for cleaning plastic and rubber trim. Scuffs and minor scratches virtually disappear.
Leaves trim with a slight sheen, not dull, not shiny. Just be careful using it on the steering wheel. If you do then wipe it off really well with a dry cloth or it will slip through your hands.
I have tried the Autoglym Vinyl and rubber care, but helas did not help much ( although the rest of the dash looked very good after using this, I thought this product was only for the engine parts) )
I think the scuff marks are to deep in the plastic to clean them out.
On another FB MX5 forum they gave a tip using a hairdryer. I am not so sure in using this, maybe on a low setting and making sure it does not heat the plastic up too much.
Another Idea was to use a black marker on the “scuff marks” and polish this in.
Will try these this weekend on a not too visible place to see what and if they work.
