seat belt warning light mk1

Hi can anyone help, the seat belt warning light comes on intermittingly, some times it stays on for a long time, i’ve also had a loud beeeeep noise some times when i turn the ignition on. we have a 1991 mk1 eunos roadster. many thanks rowles

Disable it, unplug it, - is there a guide in the Tech Archive?

Not at the moment, but there could be soon…There is a plug and socket underneath each seat, it connects to the bottom of the seatbelt stalk, unplug it and the noise and lights will go away…make sure you don’t disconnect the one for the speakers in the headrest

Is the Seatbelt warning light on the dash an MOT requirement?
I had the same problem with my '91 Eunos, although mine was on all the time; I tracked that down to the switch in the stalk (bolted to the floor) as if you pressed the belt-clip in, the light went off as it should.
I got a complete 2nd hand stalk to replace it with, but that one does the opposite - if you plug the belt in, the light comes on, unplugged, the light is off - I’ve not yet got around to working out why that is (and I don’t think you can take the stalk apart to swap just the switch!)

I’m not saying that it isn’t a requirement, but my 1990 Roadster passed 6 UK MOT tests with the thing disabled. Sounds like you replaced the stalk, when all you needed to do was undo the connector

Its probably due to a knackered seat belt stalk. I got new ones from MX5Parts that had no electrical connection.

It cant be an MOT problem, neither of our other boring but newer cars have any seat belt warning lights, so the answer is unplug them!

thanks for the replys will try as you suggest i am sure it will do the trick. job for tomorrow! Steve & Julie

Keeping on the same thread, i’ve just plugged in my seatbelt connector under the seat which i found by accident and the seatbelt warning light works.

Now heres the question, how can i get rid of the annoying buzzer sound that goes with it but still maintain the warning light?

any ideas where the buzzer is located or how to disable it?

Buzzer is under the dash just out board fo the steering column. Let it buzz then stick your head under there & you’ll soon find the buzzer unit. You can simply unplug it to be left with only the light.

to dissable light and buzzer push seat forward and lift flap at bottom of seat belt stalk and you should see a white plug disconnect it and light on dash should go out

I had the same problem occurr just after I bought the car, I disconnected the switch from under the drivers seat. I have a friend who is an MOT tester and he says that as far as he knows there is no requirement for this warning light in the test. It is certainly not listed as a testable item.

my car had been MOT’d twice with it in operable, dont even worry about it
