Seat Booster / cushion for ND

Hi All,

Bought a new ND recently. Awesome car, and real thrill to drive.

But my wife isn’t the tallest and requires some elevation in the car to feel confident. We have toyed with some foam cushions on amazon which worked but the shape wasn’t ideal for the seats. With the ND not having a height lever I wondered if anyone has come up with a solution to this or has a memory foam type seat cushion? Even for older cars?

All inputs and suggestions welcomed.

Hi. I am only 5 feet tall and had the same problem. I bought a Halfords branded memory foam set which works a treat.

Have a look at these.
I use one at home and find it a great help.

That looks good, but they don’t give the measurements, could you help with front to back and side to side measurements?  Thanks.

PS: Is yours the 8 or 11 degrees one?

Thanks for this, wife has hit up Halfords today to have a look. Fingers crossed…

My cushion is 90mm tall by 360 front to back and 370 wide. Just fits into a Mk1 seat if that helps. Product is labeled Putnam’s PL7 5ET

If a seat cushion is used on the passenger seat of a Mk3.5 would it interfere with the occupancy sensor which controls the actuation of the airbag?

You asked this in an ND thread so are you asking about an NC or ND?

nevertheless in either model I expect ■■■■ on seat = occupancy sensor active irrespective.

The occupancy sensor in the ND is clever, it can tell whether a child booster seat is being used or not. It doesn just detect weight it looks at whether a bum is actually on the seat or not.

Thank you IanH and RR for your replies.

I was enquiring about using an adult memory foam wedge cushion as sold by Halfords in my NC2 .As the seat height is not adjustable a short passenger sits very low in the car and consequently has a limited view through the windows. The car frequently goes to Scotland and my partner does miss some of the scenery.

Hi Dark Cloud

I had this problem even in my mark2 and resolved it the same way as i have done in my mark4 which is much worse from my point of view,i removed the rear seat rail bolts and put a few washers under the rail to raise rear seat height then used longer bolts, problem completely resolved the view is much better,i feel much more confident driving the car,i see no real problem with this cure and know of several people that have done this.

Removing the bolts is difficult as they are glued in and you need the special star shaped socket on mark 4,i then brought good engineering quality bolts,i raised my mark 2 by five washers,i think i have raised my mark 4 by eight washers, you do need to buy good quality large plate washers which spread the load and stability well.

All best Simon

Hi all,
sorry to resurrect this old thread but…
Can someone please advise the best place to buy the required quality bolts and washers? And the exact bolts and washers to buy?
I found this thread on the 124 forum https://www.124spider.org/threads/raise-the-seats.37070/page-2 and also found this website https://www.accu.co.uk/
However, searching the accu website I cant seem to find the exact matching bolts - particulary the stated thread pitch size of 1.25mm?
Just to confirm I would like to raise the seat by approx 30mm
Thank you.

screwfix is my go to for bolts and washers. Lots of choice at a great price.

I have never needed to research the tensile strength though.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, Screwfix was the 1st place I checked.
However, I couldn’t see any 1.25mm thread pitch size.
I have since found a few other sites which seem to offer what I need - but will wait if someone does respond with recommendations.
Cheers
