Seat leather creaking

Hi all, I’ve been having some trouble with the leather on my driver’s seat creaking whenever I shift position.

It’s getting worse as time goes on, and while I’ve used AutoGlym leather cleaner a few times which has quietened it, it comes back soon enough.

This is my first car with leather seats, so I feel like I’m missing something here. Can anyone tell me if I need to be using the cleaner more often, or if there’s something else I should be using?

Thanks!

Only got cloth seats in my “5” but years ago I had a Ford with leather seats and they creaked.  Also over the years leather coats, jackets, shoes etc. all seemed to creak, so I think that it’s just a characteristic of leather.  Just my opinion mind.

I had a similar issue with mine - it was really annoying & after trying for ages to trace the noise, which really did sound like creaking / squeaking leather or the seat frame, I eventually found the cause.

The culprit was the pivot on the bottom end of the seatbelt stalk, down the left hand side of the driver’s seat, where it bolts to the seat frame.  Because I was wearing the seatbelt (obviously!), whenever I shifted slightly in the seat - e.g. when pressing the brake or clutch pedal or steering round a corner, that was enough to move the seatbelt stalk very slightly up & down which caused the pivot to make a squeaking / creaking noise.

If I moved the stalk with my hand it didn’t happen - it was only caused by very slight movement when the seatbelt was clipped in.

Cured it with a drop of WD40 on the pivot bolt where it goes through the bottom end of the stalk - that was in early 2015 & it’s been silent ever since!

Personally think the leather on the  5 is poor at best and dosent feel soft so little give.Saw a 9k miles car last week where the white was coming through the black.I got mine recovered by Seatsurgeons in York.

I never climb out the car without pushing the seat right back.Plus i use AutoGlym cleaner and balm cream every couple of weeks.

I had this issue on my NC - and solved it
