Hi there . . . My Mk1 5 has a very worn drivers seat and I’m finding it very hard to find a good replacement. I was wondering if the passenger seat from a left hooker would fit a right hand drive 5. Has anyone tried this? Would it work? Appreciate any feedback.
If you are talking about the bolster part of the seat that is worn, as you slide into the seat, it can be repaired. Not knowing how old you are you may not understand what I am about to type. If you have an older lady among your friends then ask her if she could “darn” it with various wool’s that match the seat. My wife darned mine seven years ago and it is still ok.
Darning for anyone who doesn’t know is the term used for repairing holes in socks usually.
A passenger seat from a LHD car will fit, but getting one might be costly. There are some online specialist breakers in the Netherlands and Germany who might be able to help. But, they might be breaking US-spec cars, with sun faded cloth.
There are a lot of companies who will either repair or reupholster your existing seat.
Not sure where you are based but there are quite a few car seat specialists who will repad and recover your seats. Quite a few on this forum have used The Seat Surgeons in York who do a very nice leather reupholstery.
If you are still looking for a complete seat then MX5 City usually have some in stock, www.mx5city.com
