Seatbelts and MoT tests

What’s the score with seatbelts and the MoT test? My car (2009 PRHT) has the seatbelts running through the guides on the seatbacks. If the belt is taken out of the guide it fully retracts automatically, but if run through the guide (as designed) it needs a little manual “assistance” to retract. MoT test coming up in a few weeks - will it pass like this?

My car does the same its a 06 and has done this for many years and has just passed its MOT last month, so it should be ok it was done at a main dealer.

They check that when the buckle is engaged it is a good connection and also check the stitching of the joint area and there is no loss of material. Unless the belt does not retract at all it will pass.

Roymondo can I also refer you to the brilliant post (which includes video) from RDover in the Show us Your Mods section under “Lazy seat belt modification” which will show you how to fix the problem.

Best regards

Mine has the lazy belt retraction, not a problem come MOT time although I wondered the first time I took it whether it could be.

I tried the seat belt fix, not any different really.

Great - thanks for the responses. Sets my mind at rest at any rate!

I added the modified seat belt guides (which I suspect a 2009 model may already have).

Whilst it made a very small improvement, it didn’t cure the problem.

About 2 years ago, I got a bucket of hot soapy water behind the seats, and gave the belts a good dunking followed by a real good wash.

Not a half hearted wipe over with a damp cloth, but a propper good hard wash.

It transformed mine.

Maybe a combination of the wash, and modified guides, but mine are all but perfect now.
