What security devices do you use in your mx5 are the stop locks any good , a bit mineful when leaving it when out
I use a Stoplock on my Mk3. Particularly when parking in areas that I don’t know or if I leave it outside with the roof down.
They are pretty robust and provide a good visual deterrent.
I store it under the passenger seat, found it will slide under next to the transmission tunnel.
I too use a Stoplock on my Mk2 (Larger version for Airbag cars and 4X4s) and have found it
works well. I also have an immobiliser/Alarm fitted but use the stoplock as a deterrent
as previous does.
Stoplock here too. It came with the car. More of a visual deterent than serious security. But it’s quick and easy and helps me relax about leaving it in dodgy places. I tried a disklok. Probably better security, but bulky, heavy, and a pain to store while driving.
Another vote for a Stoplock. It’s worth getting the “Pro” version. More expensive but I would doubt anyone could remove it without a heavy duty angle grinder, or the key.
Rod
By a strange coincidence I’ve just ordered a Stoplock Pro via Amazon (£42 delivered). This was prompted yesterday by hearing about one of SWMBO’s friends, whose soft-top NC MX5 was nicked one evening recently from a public car park. I don’t know any more details, never having seen the car but ‘it looked like ours apart from the top’.

Thanks for your opinions i think my next purchase is a stoplock
Stop locks as said are not serious security , ive seen a lad of under 14 get one off in seconds that said he was a master when it came to car crime !!!
If you get a Stoplock make sure it is the Stoplock Pro. As has been said above the original could be removed in seconds. In the Auto Express tests the Pro took over 5 mins to remove.

During the 1980’s when XR3i’s were being stolen every few minutes, i tapped in to the wiring for the fuel pump relay.
Basically putting the earth leg on a hidden switch. You’d never have known where the switch was unless I showed it you.
The car would start and drive about 5 yards before it conked.
It was nothing of a visible deterent, but it did mean no one would steal it unless they towed it away.
As the ND has Cat.1 alarm/immobiliser fitted I don’t use any additional devices. If a “Pro” wants your car he’ll know how get it! If an “amateur” fancies his chances and you’ve got one of those steering wheel “security” clamps he can do a great deal of damage getting it off before he realises he can’t get the car anyway!
Agreed.
My Stoplock Pro arrived today, and it fits and does not touch the horn button.
It is too big to store under a seat, and I also worry about disturbing any wiring that there might be, but it slots nicely into the boot in the tiny space left by the big suitcase
Here’s a photo of it locked on the wheel.
