Security Indicator Light

This had me worried but when I drove to a garage the light didn’t flash. And so on, sometimes flashing, sometimes not, not synchronised with anything I can think of. Should I be worried? Anyone know how to fi it? Thanks in advance for any helpful comments.

Its immobilizer fault. It can be intermittent as you say but eventually car will refuse to start altogether. Do you have another (2nd) key ? I know we have had major dry weather but lift up the passengers carpet and pull back .Check floor for dampness etc as ecu lives there under steel plate and well known for fault issues ,especially on mk2 2.5, certain models. We have good selection of ecu,s if you do need one but its 3 part kit ie. Chipped key, immobilizer unit and ecu itself, all married set, not mix n match. The ones we have are plug n play , not programming needed

The light should flash with the engine off, it a security light. When is yours flashing?

Thanks to MX5 123 for rapid reply. Please give me an approx. cost of the three part kit; also, an estimate of fitting costs.

Thanks RR, you’re right. I’ve reread the manual and everything now appears to be running correctly. I’m pleased that no expensive repair is needed!

I hope that you’re enjoying the car Nick.

Hi Robbie

Thanks for your message and sorry for the delay. Yes, it’s a fine car and does everything I expect. I do find reversing more difficult but this is mainly because I’m less flexible as I grow older. I would welcome a brighter reversing light.

Early on, I found it difficult to clear severe condensation but this is less of a problem now.

I did update the data on my vehicle but I must have missed a Save command somewhere as it’s still displaying my V reg MX5.

I hope you are enjoying your new job and the steady stream of new Mazdas!

Best Wishes

Hi Nick

I have just seen your thread.

Security light issues and possibly non start usually relate to a problem with the ECU or immobiliser as the flashing indicates failed or failing communication between the two.

On MK1 - MK2.5 cars the usual cause is water damage to the ecu where the ecu is housed in a particularly vulnerable area, under the carpet in the passenger footwell.

Advice in this instance would be to check the condition of the ecu.

As a supplier of ecu sets to owners of MK1 - MK2.5 cars I can tell you that this is a common issue.

I hear nothing about the MK3, so assume that the ecu is better protected with far fewer problems in this respect.

Hopefully in your case just a glitch and problem never really existed.
