Servicing in Berkshire?

My Mk3.5 MX-5 is due for annual servicing and I want to get a few other things done at the same time.
By Googling I found Rotechniks in Grazely and Maztek in Slough. Any views on these or other local garages (I live in the area of Bracknell).
Thanks in anticipation.

I used Rotechniks last August for my service. They were cheaper than a Main Dealer but your car does not get a service wash that most main dealers will do. I fitted a K&N air filter to my 5 the evening before the service and Rotechniks gave me a fixed price for the service (less the air filter). They also log the service on the Mazda electronic service record.
I dropped my 5 off early and had a chat with the garage owner; he came over as a nice chap with a good knowledge. I will be using them next service.

Sparkes Engineering in Bisley who specialise in MX5s. I know of a few people who have been there and have been happy with their work.

Bought my Mk3.0 from Motorlux in Newbury in December 2010 and have used them for service and M.O.Ts ever since. I’m happy with the service I receive from them, so will continue to use them, even though it’s a bit of a trek from Wokingham. Good excuse to give the car an outing, mind you, and it’s at the end of May, so the weather is usually reasonable to make it a ‘top down’ journey there and back :-).

Littlewick Green Garage (formerly Maidenhead Honda and Mazda) on the A4 by Maidenhead are an approved Mazda Service centre. You could try there as they are OC friendly and give a discount for OC members.

I have entrusted my 24 year old Eunos Roadster to Rotechniks for four years now.

I have had consistently good service from them. As well as annual services, they sorted the car out after the crankshaft nose bolt worked loose, shearing the Woodruff key and generally making a mess of the crankshaft end. It was touch and go as to whether to repair the engine or to source a replacement recon motor. In the event, Roteckniks took the engine apart and advised that - crankshaft excepted- the engine was in good condition and worth rebuilding. That is what they did, and I was satisfied with the result and the care they took over the whole process.

So, log one very satisfied Rotechnicks customer.

I found this old thread which is relevant: http://mx5oc.co.uk/forum/yaf_postsm87898_Maztek–Slough.aspx

I have used Northcourt Avenue Garage (88-90 Northcourt Avenue, Reading RG2 7HQ) for all servicing and repairs on my previous and current MK1s

Excellent service at a fair price.

An update for those looking for MX5 servicing. I have been using Rotechniks at Grazeley for some years, but when I tried to make contact to book a service early in 2015, I discovered that they have given up the business.

They sold some of their stock (mainly Mazda rotaries, but at least one MX5) and their customer database to Apex Rotary in Farringdon, just south of Alton.

I talked to Apex and they confirmed that they would like to look after MX5s as well as rotaries, so I let them service my Mk1 Eunos. The work was done same day, to a good standard, and considerably cheaper than Mazda official dealers!

Just had the MX5 MOT`d and serviced by Colin Sparkes at Bisley. Great job, good price. Nice to deal with a proper mechanic who is also an MX5 enthusiast. He also does bodywork and restorations.
John Huddy

Thanks for the update John, glad to hear that you had a good experience. As you say, Colin is a ‘proper’ old fashioned mechanic, and an MX5 fan to boot is a bonus.
