Can anyone advise any garages in North London (i’m Crouch End/Highgate based) used to use Dandycars, who were fine but now I have a baby can’t justify the long public transport trips to pick it back up from there - was thinking of using a local garage that specialise in old MGBs - does that make sense? thought they would have more sympathy with my 15yr old sportscar than a random ‘all makes’ garage…
Interested if you find somewhere good.
I mainly use Freelance who are great but it means I have to take the day off work and have used Cox&Buckles but it’s not that much better for me time wise but they are open Saturdays.
I would have said Dandycars. Have you asked them for a loan car? They gave me the use of one at very little extra cost.
I gave my local garage a go, encouraged by your suggestions of Cox and Buckles, who similarily specialise more in classic sportscars. They were very accomodating, very friendly and very reasonable - will report back when I get a full service but impressed so far. Their details are: http://www.mg-rwservices.co.uk/html/mg-about_us.html, they specialise more in classics but unlike some garages seem to respect that if you drive a sportscar it’s probably your pride and joy… and I got to have an ogle at the other cars there - including a very nice Lotus Elan…
Hi RacingGreen,
Did you find someone decent in N.London by any chance? I’m based in Muswell Hill and have just bought a lovely 1.8 Nevada. I could do with someone to sort out a few jobs including a full service. I’m sure Dandy Cars are excellent but I could do with someone a bit closer (and cheaper!!). any ideas gratefully received!
BTW, I didn’t know about RW services being just down the road despite being a sucker for classic MGs and living here for 11 years! think I might go down and have a gander…
Cheers.
Hi Stuarte
I’m based just down the road in Crouch End - i’ll have to give you a wave if I see you on the road…
I did give RW Services a go and am glad I did - very impressed - friendly, helpful and have been very reasonable price-wise -
so far they have done my MOT (with no nasty surprises) and done a few little jobs like fitting new alloys and swapping my airbag wheel for a Nardi one (which Dandycars said they weren’t sure if it could be done!). Although they mainly work on classics, they seem to have no problem with MX5s and appreciate your car being valuable, so don’t leave oily fingerprints all over it etc. like my experience in other local garages.
The other bonus is having a nose around all the classic sportscars they are working on at the time…
Cheers
Mark
Thanks for getting back Mark. I think I’ll pop down there Saturday and have a nose round! I’ll get a quote for some work at the same time. Good to know of a decent local place. Yes, if you see a cerion silver Nevada around this way it’s probably me. Can’t be that many around here.
Cheers,
Stu
