setting the timing on a 1.8 Eunos?

We have just rebuilt the head of our 1.8 project car and thought we’d marked the timing on belt and cams (as you should), but… car won’t run and on the short tow we have tried sounds like a DOG! We can only assume the timing is out. The manual says there is a v on the crank/drive wheel which coincides with the marks on the cams, but we couldn’t find the mark on the crank so we are not sure that the cams and pistons are working together! Help…

There are some nice pictures of the timing marks in this thread: http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/p/2903/19626.aspx

It’s a 1.6 that’s pictured, but the marks are the same on the 1.8.

Thanks for that, the project will continue (unless we have wrecked the valve stems!)

Unless you’ve really shaved the head well below the recommended minimum in order to raise the compressio ratio, there is no risk of the valves and pistons meeting. As has been said innumerable times before the MX-5 engine is a non-interference design [8-|].

good good! Well, that is tomorrow’s (or the weekend) project then, take the ancillaries off AGAIN, the rocker cover and line up all the marks and hopefully we’ll have a nice running Eunos B-Limited
