Afternoon all, i`m a first time poster, but have followed various threads throughout the year. I purchased an 06 reg mark three last September having discarded my comfortable saloon and i use it as my daily driver up and down the hills of the Steel City. I love it by the way! Having requested a quote for new discs and pads on the rear at a local garage, the mechanic was keen to condemn the tyres on that axle for having cracks within the treads and being manufactured in 2011. I would be grateful to receive advice on two fronts, a) was i the victim of tyre salesmanship, the tyres have plenty of tread left and b) any recommendations for replacements? At present i have Eagle F1 tyres with what looks like a cross climate pattern. Size wise they are 205/55 (Z) R16. Any advice would be gratefully received, cheers.
Roddisons are in your home town, give them a ring or call in. No bull just straight forward advice from people who know the 5 inside out.

Hard to disagree with replacing 13 year old tyres.
I’d want four of the same, if I could match the two existing I’d replace all four.
If you feel you need somebody to look and advise you then Paul Roddison is no doubt a good suggestion. Maybe book him to do an alignment for you after the tyres are sorted.
I’d also recommend replacing tyres of that age. In addition, the correct tyre size for the Mk3 is 205/50/16 not 205/55.
The stock geometry on my 12 plate with 80k on the clock was well out. Money well spent. Drives a whole lot better now.
Thanks Mike. Roddisons have been mentioned by Mazda owners ive met locally. Cheers, I
ll give them a call.
Thats interesting. Is there an advantage for fitting the 205/50
s? I heard that there is a greater selection of rubber with the 55`s?
