Just filled my MX-5 with Shell V-Power at my local station (on the Frome By-Pass), and noticed that each litre was now priced at £1.569.
What are prices like in other parts of the country at the moment ?

I can only give the local price of supermarket fuel which seem to be wildly different.
Seen at current pump prices not on an app, and some only normal unleaded so work out what super could be over and above that of the standard.
Haven’t got Shell near me or showing on the app.
Asda nearest me 138.7p
Sainsbury’s nearest me 133.9 (their super unleaded 138.9 but this is going on the app price)
Another one which I find hard to believe a local BP station doing unleaded and super unleaded both @ 135.9 as I say on an updated app price.
Btw I’m in Derby.
I was up in North Yorkshire last week mostly 140 per litre for the standard unleaded/E10 or whatever some like Shell/BP near to 150 or one we clocked 156 for the standard fuel.
I daren’t look
I know what you mean…
We’ve got fuel in both cars ATM and don’t see the need for anymore, not going far.
We passed ASDA to go to Sainsbury’s our preferred shopping destination. Whilst at Sainsbury’s I noticed their petrol is still 133.9 whilst my normal fill up place (ASDA) has gone from 133.7 to 138.7 in a couple of days.
Thinking I’ll fill up whilst there and save, I resisted. They’ll bring it up to Asda price very shortly I’m pretty sure, even if they don’t have to.
It’s about the same here in Stirlingshire Chris I think.
TBH, for us in this household it’d not matter much if it hit £2.00 per.
We rarely use either 5 now. Cannot even recall topping up the Sport or the Mk1!
Might be more active 2022 though.
Wow, it’s always been expensive but thats s crazy price.
Taking advantage of the change to E10 perhaps??
I keep thinking about the cost of getting from here (Englandshire) to Stirlingshire next year, about a tank full I reckon.
It’s going to happen, her who must be and all that has made my mind up for me.
£2 per litre I’ll use the daily driver, it does gazillions to the gallon, well about 50 actually but that wouldn’t go down well as the top doesn’t move to the lowered position.
I also use shell v power as it is higher octane than standard super.
of the top of my head, I think the price is the same here in Grantham as where you are.
but I will check later and post tomorrow
With “regular” at around £1.39 per litre Its not surprising “V Power” is around £1.56 per litre, it’s just the usual sort of margin between the two.
Shell V Power is always the most expensive fuel in the land, wherever you may wander. I have a Gulf near me which I think, when I last filled up was £ 1.47 and it’s 98 RON. My NC is ECUtek mapped and never misses a beat or runs awry on this fuel. In fact, I’d wager anybody would know the difference in the car on Shell’s “Super Fuel”
Mick,
It’s not actually £2.00 per. Pure speculation on my part.
Hopefully see you when you get here.
Yep understood…
Who knows how high it’ll go, like others and yourself no doubt have said, I do very few miles nowadays so whatever price it’s not crippling me.
Got two cars, only one in use at any time (I’m the only driver in the household) about 36 mpg on one average and let’s say 46 on the other ain’t too bad, glad I don’t run a big old Jag as a daily😵
I used to have an Omega 2.2 petrol, winter daily running could drop below 20 mpg, got rid.
Thank you for your replies gentlemen - it seems that the cost of V-Power is much the same wherever you live in the country.
To be honest, for the amount we use the 5 (only around 2,000 to 3,000 miles per year), the cost is not really a problem, and I do like treating her to the best. It’s just that the last time I filled he up (over two months ago now), I seem to recall that it was only around the £1.36-mark.
Still, there you go - that’s life.
Even if V-Power went up to £3 a litre I’d still continue to use it.
Compared to all the other costs involved in running a car (depreciation in normal times, servicing, maintenance, insurance, MoT, VED, parking, etc) the difference in cost between standard and premium fuels is lost in the noise.
I can remember my late father telling me that petrol used to be one shilling and threepence a gallon - we’re not going to see that again.
You’re right there Philip.
I seem to recall getting three gallons for about a quid when I started driving !
Aye Chris, them were the days eh?
unleaded was 50pence a liter when I started back in 95!
you could fill a 60liter tank for £30.
now it costs £60 to fill a 40 liter tank
and then there’s the devaluation of the pound!
in 95 you could buy 2 or 3 cans of Coca-Cola for a pound now your lucky to get 1 can for a pound!
When I started driving in 1972 a gallon of petrol cost around 35 of our newly-fangled pennies. If my maths is correct (divide by 4.5ish for litres) this equates to approx 8p/litre.
My first car, a battered old 1962 minivan, cost me the princely sum of £60. I still remember the reg no - ASC282B
… and a Watneys Party 7 was 79p
Absolutely spot on there, about 35p per gallon. I worked part time at a Shell filling station, actually filling the cars up, checking oil etc, remember those days?
Fading memory, was it a choice of 2 star, 3 star 4 star etc?
My memory has faded too but I do seem to remember 2, 3 and 4 star. And the ubiquitous 2-stroke oil dispenser for all the scooters and mopeds.
