Should I ? Or not?

I bought my MX-5 (ND1 , 2 litre) in 2017 and it’s been faultless. It’s had sundry tweaks - cosmetic ones such as ceramic coating , Dinitrol and dynamic ones - decent tyres, lowered springs , remap and exhaust manifold by Roddisons etc. Now about 70 k miles and engine and gearbox peachy as ever .

But I found myself - just out of curiosity of course - looking at Autotrader at ND2s and wondered… Any newer car I got would certainly get lowered springs(transformative) and I’d Dinitrol again as well talk to Paul Roddison about any sensible engine upgrades . But a newer car has some appeal , Apple Carplay would be good and thre’s probably more stuff I’d appreciate like reversing camera.

I’d be interested to hear if anyone else has had similar dilemma and how they resolved it.

CarPlay is a relatively easily doable retrofit for ND1’s. I believe a reversing camera can be added too. Unless you found the additional horsepower to be life changing then your car sounds mint and has all the work already done. ND1 is said to have better lower down torque than the ND2.

I was considering selling my BBR Super 200 ND1 Sport Recaro and getting a nearly new Homura with Recaro seats (probably an RF for a change from my ST). However, I would then end up spending a considerable amount of money on modifying the Homura so am now thinking more seriously about changing to an Alpine A110.

My 2015 ND1 2.0L with 22k on the clock is worth around £12k. Similar spec new around £36k.

Why change if all is well with your current car. I certainly won’t be swapping mine.

You can upgrade the ND 1 with Carplay and a reversing camera for around £200 and half a day’s work.

Roadie’s comment above makes sense to me.

Paul - many thanks but RFs aren’t my thing at all , sadly . But do let me know if anything else crops up .

Same. Although I never ever turn a phone on on the car, so carplay is worthless to me.
My primary reason for spending another £18-20K, part exchanging mine for a new one, is I’m craving modernisation, with the car beeping at me every 11 seconds
JOkes aside, my ND pretty much takes my life over looking after it (sad, I know), and if mine went it’d most likely just be for something totally different, which I’d use ‘as a car’. I doubt I’d sit down with £20K plus my ND to sign up for another 5-7-10 years of taking my life over lol Sometimes I wonder if I actually own my ND- is it it owning me.

The over speed warning that can’t be turned off would totally take the pleasure out of it for me.

Our other car is a 2019 Qashqai and because of the Nissan - Renault link and French speed camera detector ban has a satnav unit which doesn’t have speed camera warnings. No facility to add them either.

I’ve added a Snooper GPS detector which is great but the over speed warning was a pain. Driving at 29-30 in a 30 limit resulted in a bleep every few seconds. 30.00001 MPH gave a ding. Drop to 29.99999 and hit 30.00001 again and another ding. Thankfully the limit on that can be adjusted up.

Think I might keep my ND1 forever.

I think it can via a button by the right knee?

Give me 10k then put a private plate and carplay on your current car.

Same end result.

Not sure but I think I heard somewhere that it silences all the warning signals. Happy to be corrected.
