What’s the concensus? Seems to work on the Mini (Silver body, black roof colour option). After all the fabric roof is black…
Would widen-up the choice of 2nd-hand tops!
Cheers,
Rich.

Seen plenty of silver 5s with black hardtops. Looks fine. In fact a black top on most colours looks ok as you say it`s the same colour as the soft top.
I bought a black one for my blue car for £200 then just resold it when a blue one came along.
If you can get hold of a vinyl covered one (& one was forsale recently but can`t remember where) then all the better.
There was a black hardtop on Nutz yesterday for £250 but probably sold by now.

Thanks Dave.
I was thinking it would probably work quite well, but according to the wife my sense of style & taste is often suspect…!
I think MX5City in Doncaster (only 30mins from here) do a hardtop respray for £120 which hopefully should allow a good colour match to the car (I guess not all silver cars & tops are quite the same). Might be an option to get any old colour and paint it as long as I can find a top cheap enough to justify it.
The picture you sent must be an aftermarket top not OE Mazda? Seems to slope more at the back, has a small window and doesn’t have the big silver catches (unless it covers them?). Don’t suppose you know what make/model top it is? Have to say I’m not sure about the vinyl finish though!
Cheers,
Rich.
I considered this for my silver Mk2 but decided against it in the end & picked up a silver one for about £80-100 more. The MX5 looks great with a colour coded hardtop on, they always remind me of TVRs!
That is just a random picture i found to illustrate the vinyl look, Not sure of the make.
Always plenty of silver tops on Ebay. Trouble is not many seem to know the actual colour (or paint code) & you can`t tell from the pictures. i had the same trouble when searching for my Supreme Blue one but got lucky eventually

like this then?
This was mine before the BBS wheels.

Good pictures, thanks Waz, just what I was after. Like it with the black hardtop (and the wife seems to agree which is a good start!)
Still looks like a roadster rather than a pretend coupe, if you see what I mean.
Nice BBS’s by the way, suit the car well I think.
Rich.
You could always just paint a hard top satin black - it’ll cost about £10 in paint, sandpaper and masking tape. That way you can buy any hard top and have it match your car.
I did this, but then my whole car is satin black.
The great thing about taste is there is no good, or bad, just personal.
Personally mate, the photos above look pretty damn good.
