Sir Roger Moore

So sad to learn of the death the other day of a British icon - Sir Roger Moore.

When I was growing up (!), he was the star of many of my favourite TV shows - Ivanhoe, The Saint, The Persuaders - and then he got the job of playing James Bond.  He had a hard act to follow of course - Sean Connery was brilliant in the role, but Roger Moore did a fine job, and Live and Let Die (with the luscious Jane Seymour), is one of my favourite all-time Bond movies.

I’m of the age now (62) when my music and screen idols seem to be dropping like flies - 2016 was an especially bad year.  Sign of the times I guess.

R.I.P Roger - we will miss you.

Ditto what Chris said.
He was my favourite Bond.

Sorry to hear about Roger Moore, and I am of an age to remember Ivanhoe and the Saint, but Daniel Craig is the best Bond ever !

Oh, this could get messy !

Most people tend to forget / dismiss Timothy Dalton, but I thought The Living Daylights especially was rather good.

Wait for the deluge of ‘… is the best Bond’ postings !

i am only slightly younger but Roger Moore was the Bond for me

we went to an evening with Roger Moore at Norwich theatre royal a few years ago, he was totally down to earth and had a hell of a sense of humour, the audience could ask him any question and he was as sharp as a tack

miss you Sir Roger Moore

He was a great James Bond

He was a great James Bond

In all honesty, I don’t actually have a favourite Bond.

To me, each actor brought his own personality to the role, and each one seems to fit in to the decade in which they had the part.  I couldn’t imagine a better Bond for the 70s than Roger Moore.

Having said that, I actually liked the remake that Sean Connery did of Thunderball in 1983 called Never Say Never Again.  I suppose I just like the whole Bond ‘thing’ - except perhaps the George Lazenby On Her Majesty’s Secret Service film from 1968.  I don’t know why, there is just something about that whole outing that is just not ‘right’.  Diana Rigg was great, but…

Oh well, each to his own !
