a few months ago, i had to change one of the belts on my mx5. at the time, a person described it as the auxiliary belt and said it was for the power steering and the air conditioning. it was definitely for the power steering cos i noticed the difference straight away. i dont for sure if it was for the AC because i’d never used it before the belt went. although they were able to fix the belt, they couldn’t get the AC unit working again.
the other belt has just started screeching very occasionally. a different person i’ve spoken to has said this belt is for the alternator and i should change it. i’ve taken a picture. sorry it isnt very good. it looked really clear on my phone:
i thought it would be easy to see which was the new one, because of the printing on it, but the printing on the old one still looks pretty good. so, which is which?
i want to make sure i get the right one because last time the person who did it for me had to get like 4 belts before they narrowed it down to the right one.
i’ve been watching youtube vids and saw something about the belt being bigger if you have air con. a person i spoke to seemed to be suggesting the alternator belt also ran the AC.
if someone has a Japanese import and has done this please let me know which size i need to get. since it definitely wont be running the AC unit, because it’s bust, does that mean i need a shorter one? thank you

i thought i had no chance after 1am!
