I have owned my MX5 for about a week and having read about Slinky’s accident where he skidded, I’m wondering whether it might be an idea for me to take some training.
It has been a good few years since I passed my test and this is my first sports car.
I’d be looking for something that is no more than about a 45 minute drive from Southend. I wondered if anyone had any suggestions?
We have done this as an Owners Club group a couple of times in previous years.
There is a skid pan run by ex police traffic officers over at Kelvedon which is essentially a well oiled figure of 8 course upon which they run old rear wheel drive cars (Sierras and 3 series BMWs). Good fun and a good way of learning the car control.
Had a look for a website but cant find anything…sorry.
Might be worth booking it up again with so many new members having joined recently…
It might be worth having a word with your local police force as I think they usually have or have access to this sort of facility to train their own drivers.
I spoke to our fleet manager at work today as he arranges refresher courses every year for our chauffeurs and military drivers. I did one a couple of years ago driving Jags but it was more about how to drive powerful cars and using the ABS and that kind of thing and not really about skidding.
It was wonderful to spend a day driving cars that barring a lottery win I will never be able to afford to buy.
I may be an owner of my first MX5 very shortly and I would also be interested in this depending on the price, which it doesn’t seem to mention on the web page (always worrying!).
