Sky and Free to air TV. ? HELP Please.

I am leaving sky after at least 14 years, and am looking for a recommendation for a Free to view  receiver.

I heard that a Technisat HDFS was a good one but looking on Amazon UK I saw a bad review re maintenance, and It looks as if Amazon no longer sell them .

Can anyone give me some guidance ?  I believe you can plug one into the existing sky Dish ?

Any help  or advice gratefully received.

I thought the Sky receiver gives you freesat even after you opt out of Sky?

It does but you get more channels and hd channels with say a free sat humax box , which plugs straight into your aerial .

Sky box will work as a free to air receiver but the recording function will not work.

If you have good terrestrial reception the channels available on Freeview don’t vary much to Freesat.

Humax Freeview boxes are very good. Rather than buying a retail one have a look at BT branded boxes. Lots on eBay that have never been used at bargain prices.

Doesn’t matter what the label on the front says, catch up TV will work whatever broadband supplier you use.

If you need to go down the Freesat route then I would still recommend Humax.

Freesat uses the same dish as Sky

Freeview uses aerial

Many thanks to all for the useful information.
Cheers

Good morning, I use the Humax freesat receiver having given up with terrestrial tv due to poor reception. Note that Channel 4 HD is missing from that platform due to a financial disagreement between parties!
