So what's the occupation of a lucky Mx5 owner!

I notice there are a lot of retiree’s on here … guess what, I am also retired! After 40 years with one well known tractor manufacturer based in essex I was offered redundancy and early retirement. I was a technical author writing repair manuals etc. It was good, kept my hand in technically but didn’t have too get too dirty either! Only get dirty playing with the mx5 now.

I know I have heard several people down the years say that if you have a trade you will always find work. Particularly as a plasterer or plumber…

I remember as a 10 year old moving to a small country school. One of the first questions I was asked was “what is your favorite tractor?”. At the time I had no clue there were different ones. But I learnt that blue ones were fords, red ones Massey Ferguson, green ones John Deere and I think that was it…

At the time - in the late 70’s, I think everyone had a red one…

After 48 years as a firefighter (23 years RAF fireman, 25 years MOD firefighter) I finally hung my helmet up and now working as a office furniture assembler. Apart from my own MX5 I have the pleasure of keeping my Wifes MX5 filled with petrol, tyres pressures checked, cleaned etc.

I would say that you are not classed as a hairdresser unless she asks you to do another cut… then you are an official hairdresser and have a job for life!!!

Think of it as a badge of honour my wife would never let me near her hair to cut it .:+1:

I’m a HGV driver,almost 49.5 drive a Audi S5 as my daily,have a 2007 NC 1.8 as my weekend car,lovingly sat under a cover in the drive…sadly only 2k done this year with only 1 road trip:cry::cry::cry:

I had similar advice in 1970, got an apprenticeship as a “street mason & pavior” City & Guilds ( although my indentures say Stone mason) and just worked my way through to I.Eng qualified. How lucky was I as the apprenticeship thing remained in name only really, not too many years after that. Happy days!

Now a lovely stress-free role in small Student office at an Art College.

Yes good vocational jobs were easier to come by then Barrie our generation was very lucky in that respect I think. Not so easy for young people today to start off in life with a good job. Regards Bob.:+1:
